EdiJor'j note: .Thi column is written by a Medford
teen ager who has chosen the nom da pluma of
"Kimmy." Other teen ageri in the area-and. who
knows, perhaps e-sn parents baifled at lheir offspring's
behavior - are invited to write to "Kimmy," in care
of the Mail Tribune, for suggestions or advice on man
ners, dress, behavior and similar subjects.
Dear Kimmy: Thcrs is a
girl who calls me all the
time and tells me she likes
mo. How can I tell her I
don't liko all of her culls,
without hurling her leel
ings? Thank you.
Eddie
Doiir Eddie: Well, Eddie, in
the first place lliis Rirl should
know that it is very h.-id man
ners for n Kill to call ii hoy,
unless she has something very
important to talk over with
him. 1 can see where you do
have a problem.
Do you cnll her? Perhaps
if you called her, she would
have no reason to he railing
you all the time. You didn't
mention if you like her or
not. If you do not like her
for a Rirl friend, it miKht nut
be the best idea to start call
ing her.
I would just come rifiht otil
and tell her that you would
appreciate it very much if
she would not rail. You mihl
say somcthini; to some of her
friends and they in turn
would say something to her.
If she is half-lvunan, I know
she will understand, without
being hurl.
Doar Kimmy: When I
was in the eighth grade I
started wearing mascara.
Mother asked me not to
wear it and said I could
wear it in my freshman
yerfr. Well. I will be a
freshman this year and she
says she won't let me wear
ii. I know that school isn't
a "daytime night club" as
you have mentioned before,
but I would wear it lightly
and Just enough to look
natural but still "glamor
ize" my eyes a little more.
What can I do to convince
Mom to lot me wear it?
Ton!
Dear Toni: Wearing mas
cara, just like other mnkc-up,
is another step toward wom
anhood. Mascara can he a
real messy thing if not ap
plied in the right way. Then
again, it can glamorize and
add a lot to one's features.
If you are lucky enough to
nave long, oark lasnrs, men
by all means, don't wear mas-1
cara. It you are like many construction of the pavilion
others who do not have lonn, nnd adjacent storage facilities
rlnrk Irishes then
mHScara
lay be just the thing youlber, Double Doe LAimbcr, r.iK
need.
Tonl, IC you do wear Just
the right amount to add to
your eyes, I see nothing wrong
with it. Please, don t go Into
I eye-liner or eye shadow for
'quite awhile yet. That ruins
'young eyes.
Remember too, that on
some people make-up looks
very attractive, and on other
people, it docs nothing but
distract from their beauty.
Find out which category you
are in!
Dear Kimmy: My mother
and father want me to wear
braces on my teeth and I
don't want to.
Crooked Teolh
Dear Crooked Teeth: If you
do really have crooked teeth,
please do get braces! Braces
aren't much fun to wear, or
have the feeling people really
notice them. Just think whit
the results arc going to he.
Nice, slr.iight teeth. Your
teeth ran mean the difference
between a nice smile and a
not so nice smile. The sooner
you gel your braces, the soon
er you will get them off.
just think, when your
teeth are nice and straight,
some one may walk up to you.
with no embarrassment on
your part and say
"Smile, you're on Candid
Camera!"
Dear Kimmy: I have rod
hair and I am wondering
what shades of lipstick I
should wear.
Kay
Dear Kay: With your red
hair, shades of orange are
best for you. Stay away from
shades of pink. If ynu have
auburn hair, red lipsticks can
be very becoming. Experi-
menl to find just what the
"perfect" shades are for you.
Remember,, what looks good
on fomeon.; cl.;c, won't al
ways look good on you.
Dear Kimmy: I was askod
for a dinner data by a very
nice fellow, I was real ex
cited about it, because it
was my first dinnir date.
By the lima the night was
over, I was so embarrassed,
I could have cried. I spilled
my soup, and dropped my
knilo and part of my roll.
To lop things off, I tripped
over my chair on the way
out. I have been asked for
mora dinner dates since
then, and I have turned
them all down, because I'm
afraid the same thing might
happen. What can I do? I
want to go out!
Clumsy
Dear Clumsy: What a date!
I ran see that you did have a
bad night.
I wouldn't turn your other
dales clown though, Just be-
rause of one bad evening.
You know the old saying -
SAYS
"Practice makes perfect."
The more you practice eating
out with a fellow, the more
relaxed and calm you will
be.
Please, what ever you do,
accept your next dinner date
and have fun! Remember,
EVERYONE has their bad
days!
Doar Kimmy: I have sud
denly fallen in love with a
51 year old man. Should I
drop him? I am 17.
Puzzled
Dear Puzzled: Don't bother
- at his age he'll drop soon
enough!
