FBI Ordered To
Stop Harassment
Of Crime Leader
Chicago - (UPD - A federal
judge has ordered the Fed
eral Bureau of Investigation
to stop its "harassment" of
Sam (Mooney) Giancana, re
puted boss of the Chicago
Crime Syndicate.
Federal District Court
Judge Richard B. Austin also
placed Marlin W. Johnson,
chief FBI agent in Chicago, in
contempt of court for refusing
on orders from Washington to
answer questions in court.
Giancana, an international
playboy who is reported to
have direct control over vice
and gambling in Chicago, was
in court as he won his victciry
over tne t ill.
His saturnine face was dou
as the judge began speaking,
but it brightened steadily
Austin laced into the FBI
for its "rough shadowing'
techniques and refusal '
withdraw a small corps
agents from around the mob
ster's suburban home.
Can't Give Sanction
"I know there are some not
interested in civil rights and
not concerned with privacy
who will in the future approve
of this type of harassment
Austin said. "I cannot give
, my sanction. This conduct,
it were by private citizen
would be actionable in court
In a preliminary injunction

cana on the golf course.
Giancana had complained
that a foursome of FBI agents
dogged Ills heels whenever he
went onto the links. Austin
saia tne FBI golfers would
have to let another foursome
intervene between them and
uiancana.
The judge also ordered that
me mi could post only one
car in its stakeout at Gian
cana s home and stipulated
that it would have to stay
a block away from the resi
dence.
Giancana, often accused of
playing fast and loose with
the law, had attacked the

like looking for someone who doesn't read newspapers
Very hard to find. 99 million people in almost 9 out of every 10 homes read newspapers. It's the
most sought after, often bought, eagerly consumed, intensely depended upon product in the world.
The reason is obvious. We can't do without it. The need to know about the news and events that
touch and shape our lives is deep, intense, unending. And the need to know is now. Today. So it's
not very hard to figure out why more advertising dollars are spent in daily newspapers than in TV,
magazines, radio, ana outdoor combined.
