The outcome of the game
will determine whether or
not Medford will stand the
Falcons in a final playoff.
Medford retained a posi

The 72-foot vessel, owned
by Robert F. Johnson of Port

However, the handicap

sloop Islander owned by
Thomas G. Corkett of Balboa,
Calif. She logged 164 miles
and was sailing in the middle
of the fleet, 724 miles out
from Diamond Head.
The star performer of the
day in the 2,225-mile race
from Los Angeles was the
Class B sloop, Legend, owned

Medford a chance for the
championship pla yoffs
against the Klamath Falls
Falcons who lead the league
with a 10-1 record. The Med
ford squad boosted their own
record last night to 9-2 which
will place them into conten
tion next Tuesday night at
the fairgrounds.
The Studs, on the other
hand, are out of the titular
running but will probably
face a second place tie play
off with the Grants Pass team.
The Studs won the first part
of the double card by top
ping the Medford squad 2-0 in
a no-counter.
Scoring the only two runs
in the non-counter were Neil
Rivenburg who got to first
on a walk in the first inning,
and by catcher Darryl Sum
merfield who crossed home
plate on an error by the Med
ford catcher.
The league game remained
scoreless and had both teams
attempting to put men on
bases until the top of the fifth
inning when a Medford at
tempt paid off in the bottom
of the fourth inning with Kan
Phipps, Ron Edmonds and
Mike Barnes holding down
the bases and Enyart in the
batter's box. Stud's hurler
I ry Pepper had a full count
from Honolulu after a run
of 221 miles. This left her
21st in fleet handicap and
third for a Class A boat.
Australia's Astor made good
progress by logging 221 miles
for the day and moved to 557
miles from Hawaii in sixth
position. On a handicap basis,
she was 25th and fifth in her
class.
Japan's Contcssa III turned
in a day's run of 166 miles,
which put her 910 miles from
the finish line. Even on a
handicap basis, the 40-foot
Class D sloop was 28th in the
fleet and ninth in her class
of 10 competitors.
The worst performance of
the day was reported by the
38-foot ketch Sloveig, owned
by Kramer J. Rohlfleisch of
La Mesa, Calif. She logged
only 44 miles and was barely
over the halfway mark at
1,098 miles out. However, she
reported that all was well.

Promoter Elton Owen has
come up with a double main
event with the finale being
for the Pacific Coast junior
heavyweight championship. It
will introduce Tough Tony
Borne, who takes on crown
bearer Rocky Columbo for 45
minutes or the best two out
of three falls.
The lower half of the twin
main sends rough and tough
Soldat Gorky against Indian
Billy Whitewolf, northwest
heavyweight champion, in a
non-title match over the same
distance.
Borne hopes to rely on his
vicious "cannonball" maneu
vcr, in which he bolts over
the top rope like a slingshot
to crash into his opponent, to
lift the title from Columbo.
The champion is a flashy
wrestler who asks no quarter
and gives none.
