Plans Being Made
For Eagle Point's
4th Observance
Eagle Point-Plans are being
finalized for this year's Fourth
of July celebration in Eagle
Point, an occasion which will
feature such events as a pa
rade, horse show, gun shoot,
breakfast and dinner.
The festivities will actually
get under way on the evening
of Wednesday, July 3, with
the coronation ball, starting at
9 p.m. at the Eagle Point Com
munity building.
Candidates for queen of
Eagle Point this year are Judy
Mynatt, Sandy Charters, Dale
West, Loretta Whipple and
Margaret Burk. Tickets for the
ball may be obtained from the
queen candidates. The Eagle
Point Jayceettes have obtain
ed the Hal Grow orchestra to
provide music at the ball.
Breakfast Scheduled
The July 4 program itself
will start with the Eagle Point
Jaycees' annual breakfast
from 6 to 11 a.m. in the park
next to the Grange building.
The menu includes sausage,
eggs, pancakes, coffee and
milk. Price of the breakfast
will be $1 for adults and SO
cents for children.
At noon, the bells of Eagle
Point will ring, along with
bells throughout the nation.
The Eagle Point Jaycees are
participating in the national
Let Freedom Ring project
with other Jaycee organiza
tions around the country. The
idea behind the project is to
encourage Americans to look
upon July 4 as Independence
Day rather than just a day
of leisure and fireworks.
The parade will start at
12:15 p.m., beginning in the
downtown area and extending
the full length of town. Theme
of the parade will be "Patri
otic People." Entries will in
clude floats, horses and
marching sections. Entry
blanks may be obtained from
Chief of Police Bob Moore any
time before the Fourth.
Gymkhana Planned
Following the parade will
be the Jaycee's Gymkhana,
put on by the Eagle Point
Desert Pegasus 4-H Horse club
at 1 p.m. in back of the new
primary school building.
Horse events will include key
hole, pole bending, scurry,
Texas barrel, figure eight
stake and musical chairs.
There will be a special
event for participants under 9
years of age. Ribbons will be
given to first through fifth
place winners and a trophy
to the high point rider in each
age group. Age groups Include
9-12; 13-18 and adults. Entry
fee is $1 per rider.
Another event planned is a
gun shoot in back of the com
munity building. It will be
put on by the Eagle Point
Gun club under the direction
of Ted Hoffman. Prizes will
be offered.
Other Events Slated
The Beta Nu chapter of the
Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority
of Eagle Point will have a
dunking tank game. The Girl
Scouts will have a balloon
throw and the Brownie Scouts
a fish for prizes booth.
Refreshment booths also are
planned. The foods offered
will include sno-concs by the
Eagle Point Bluebirds; cotton
candy by the Camp Fire girls;
cookies and drinks by the
home extension unit; sno
cones, sandwiches, potato
salad, coffee and ice cream by
the Grange, and sno-cones,
sandwiches, and soft drinks
by the high school pep club.
Other activities will incude
a movie at the grade school
gym presented by the inter
mediate Girl Scouts, a cake
walk by the high school rally
squad and pony rides by the
Cub Scouts.
Culminating the day of ac
tivity will be a Grange dinner
in the park next to the Grange
hall.

Request for Grader
Funds Is Refused
The Jackson county court
refused the request of Coun
ty Engineer Robert J. Carstcn
sen Friday to pay for a need
ed grader out of current fis
cal year funds.
County Judge Earl M. Mil
ler said the policy was not
to buy items from one fiscal
year's budget which had been
designated for purchase un
der the next fiscal year
budget.
The county engineer re
quested that the S17.986 for
the grader be taken from the
SI 18.000 which he estimates
he will have to turn back to
the county at the end of the
current fiscal year, which if
