Sports Area Will This Week's Plan for Home Builders
Have Summer Use1??-
Ashland - The Mt. Ashland
winter sports area will have
good potential for summer
use as well, Alex Murphy,
manager of the Mt. Ashland
Corp. told members of the
Ashland Chamber of Com
merce Tuesday.
Speaking at the final cham
ber luncheon before its an
nual summer break during
July and .August, Murphy
told of progress being made
in development of the area.
It is anticipated that a fine
restaurant will be established
at the ski lodge, he said, one
that will lure visitors through
out the year.
The view from Mt. Ashland
should also be an attraction
for visitors in the summer
as well as at other times of
the year, he added, noting
that sunsets are especially
beautiful from that vantage
point.
Work is now under way
on clearing area for the T-bar
and trainer lifts for skiers.
Work on construction of the
lodge is expected to start be
tween July 10 and 15.
At some later date, a chair
lift will be built to the peak
of the mountain, he said.
Murphy called the location
of the Mt. Ashland ski area
"excellent" because it has a
larger adjacent population
than most other ski areas in
the country.
He foresaw great poten
tial in "developing the pres
ent non-skier."
Furnace Explosions
Cosily to Industry
New York-MPtt-A specially
built furnace that explodes on
cue was the star of an un
usual "show" which recently
demonstrated the latest elec
tronic flame-safeguard equip
ment for industrial use.
American . industry "aver
ages 10 preventable furnace,
oven or boiler explosions a
day and this adds up to an
estimated cost qf S20 million
a year," said Aaron Curtis,
sales manager of Honeywell's
apparatus controls division,
sponsor of the demonstration.

One of the outstanding joys
of a well-planned home, for
privacy conscious parents, is
to be able to retire to the liv
ing room and there to luxu
riate in entertaining - or a
good book - in peace and
quiet.
A good "dead-end" living
room is literally that as it has
no cross traffic to or from
other areas of the house. Ob
viously not all plans can be
arranged in such a manner to
provide this but here is one
that has been.
Placed In Closet
Another feature of this liv
ing room is that the dining
area of the room is the same
width as the living room,
which eliminates the wall off
set formed by the usual di-ning-ell.
Although a fireplace
has not been located in this
room, one could be built here
during the cpnstruction of the
home, if desired.

closet next to the bath. If pre
ferred, these utilities could be
relocated in the garage which
wilt provide an extra storage
closet in the house.
The master bedroom suite
is separated from the chil
dren's rooms by the family
bath. Both this room and one
of the children's bedrooms has
a shoulder high sliding win
dow in one wall which pro
vides cross ventilation but
does not interfere with furni
ture arrangement. A wide
Pullman lavatory plus a dress
ing table is a feature of the
dressing room. The shower
and Water closet are in a
separate compartment. This
arrangement offers more pri
vacy. ; ' ,
Convenient to Kitchen
The fa m il y room is con
venient to the kitchen, front
door and sliding glass doors
open from this room to the
rear patio. Open planning has
resulted by eliminating the
wall between the kitchen and
family rooms. This arrange
ment creates easier traffic
flow between the rooms and
helps each area appear
larger than its actual size. The
doors leading from the kitchen
to the service and dining
areas have been arranged so
as to provide a maximum
amount of space in the nook.
An access door opens from
the garage to the covered
front porch while another,
opens to a walk which leads
to the service door.
The rustic ranch exterior
has been achieved by using
several different materials
that not only weather well but
which will blend into any ver
dant landscape.
