Educator
Is Speaker
For Group
School superintendent of
District 6, C. A. Meyer, talked
for Jackson County Retired
Teachers at the Girl's Commu
nity club, Saturday, June 8
Mr. Meyer told of the trip
that he made last summer in
company with several other
superintendents and some col
lege representatives. They vis
ited various schools and in
spected their teaching equip
ment and taked to the teach
ing personnel. Some of t h e
schools visited were in Nor-
walk, Conn., Lexington, Mass.,
and Chicago, 111.
The schools in the eastern
part of the United States re
ceive many grants which the
Oregon schools do not, accord
Ing to Mr. Meyer. Oregon is
in need of more money than
Is available, he declared.
Mr. Meyer thinks that teach
ers should spend their time
entirely with teaching, and
not with clerical work and
other duties. He stressed the
importance of the schools de
voted to the training of
teachers, and told of the four
areas in which the group of
visitors was especially inter
ested. The four areas are team
teaching, flexible scheduling,
intern teaching and teaching
aids.
He spent much of his time
discussing team teaching,
which consists of a leader,
who is an experienced teach
er, a teacher's helper, and a
business executive.
Although some Oregon
school districts are poor, the
speaker believes that we have
nothing for which to apolo
gize. However, he recom
mends a sales tax, to be ear
marked for education.
The hostess for the after
noon was Mrs. Sanford Rich
ardson, who was assisted by
Mrs. Ethel Fleischer, Mrs.
Jack Terrlll, Mrs. Margarot
Vllson, Mrs. Hazel Atkins,
Mrs. H. P. Jewett and Mrs..
