In Tehran, Iran; Doctor's
Family to Leave June 30

Point, student at the Commu
nity High school in Tehran,
Iran, was close to the bloody
noting recently reported
from that quarter. Dr. Wayne
Roberts, cousin of Dr. Alvin
Robert, missionary to Hama
dan, Iran, reported here this
week.
Dr. Wayne Roberts had a
telephone call from Dr. Alvin
Roberts Sunday. The latter
feared that the former would
be worried by press releases
from Iran and he was. He
learned by telephone that all
members of the Roberts fam
ily in the far off land were
safe, but that Judy had had
a rather close call. The ma
chine guns were firing just
a few blocks from the school
when the cease fire was call
ed Sunday. The girl's father
was in Tehran at the time,
having gone there for Judy's
high school graduation.
There is no high school in
Hamadan, where Dr. Roberts
will complete his year's stay
as a missionary this month.
The other members of the
Roberts family are continuing
studies under tutors. Tehran
time is 12V4 hours ahead of
Pacific Standard Time and
the shooting was over when
Dr. Roberts called his Cen
tral Point cousin. Tehran is
about 150 miles from Hama
dan. Judy was the only Amer
ican in the graduating class
of 40 students.
The Roberts family will
leave Hamadan for a return
to the United States June 30.
The return trip will be made
through New Delhi, Bangkok,
Hong Kong, Tokyo and Hon
olulu. Dr. Roberts said he ex
pected to reach the Rogue
River valley July 23.
The Iran rioting was brand
ed as "Red subversions" by
Shah Mohammed Reza Pah
levi, according to press re
leases. Dr. Roberts of Central
Point said his cousin was un
able to give any explanation
since only a little news reach
es him and little through the
voice of America. He said he
knew that there was shooting
and he knew that there had
been casualties. He found
that his daughter was all
right and beyond that he
knew nothing.
