Schedules Review
Of Space Program

sucrutiny today in Senate
hpace committee hearings de
signed to assess its aims, ac
tivities, and costs.
Chairman Clinton P. Ander
son (D-N. M.) is launching the
inquiry with testimony from
10 distinguished scientists.
The controversial man-to-thc-
moon project will be a central
issue.
The hearing has political
overtones. Just a month ago
the staff of the Senate Repub
lican policy committee issued
a report on the moon program
entitled 'a matter of priority.
The same day Sen. Margaret
Chase Smith, Maine, the com
mittee's top ranking Repub
lican, wrote Anderson asking
for an airing of the program's
objectives, along with a study
of the budget of the National
Aeronautics and Space Ad
ministration. Anderson responded by re
questing testimony from the
10 witnesses who represent
wide range of views. Two
days of hearings have been
alloled.

Highway Crashes
Claim 22 Lives
Pour highway tragedies
killed a total of 22 persons -including
a father and six of
his children - in Illinois, Cali
fornia and Canada within a
few hours Saturday,
The spectacular crash oc
curred on the first summer
vacation week end of the
year and Just one week after
the nation set a record for
the most number of persons
killed during a summer-season
holiday week end.
' Saturday's worst collision
was near Pontiac, 111., where
a vacationing father and six
of lilt seven children perish
ed in a car-truck smashup.
Five persons were killed
In a four -car pilcup at Mil'
pilas, Calif., and two acci
dents' in Ontario, Canada,
claimed five lives each.
A car carrying Mr. and
Airs. Charles J. Kozumplik of
Honing Meadows, HI., and
their children crashed into
the rear of a parked truck on
U. S. 68, Just north of Pon
tiac, III., less than .two hours
after the family had started
a vacation trip.

Sought in Complaint
A complaint seeking 110,

in Jackson county circuit
court against the S W Floor
Cover Shop, 709 South River-
sine ave.
Seeking the damages is
Naomi Guss. 1041 Mt. Pitt
ave., who, according to the
complaint, was Injured in
May, 1982, while in the store.
The complaint states that Mrs.
Oiss was struck by a six foot
long steel T-square which fell,
striking her on the head, left
shoulder and elbow.
