Junior Service
League Presented
Camera by Group
A Polaroid camera has been
presented to the Junior Serv
ice league hard of hearing
clinic by the KIwBnis Modlord
foundation.
Presentation was made at
' the Wednesday noon luncheon
of the Medford Kiwanli club
at Rogue Valley Country club
by Victor Mllnes, foundution
president. The camera wm ac
cented tor tne league ana
. clinic by Mrs. B. Srandt Bar
. tela.
Mrs. Bartels said that the
camera will facilitate the
teaching of language, speech
and lip reading and enable
pupils to review experiences
faster.
Keith Hockersmith, Mod'
ford school board chairman
was main speaker at tne
luncheon. Discussing prob
lems and the programs Just
undertaken in the school dis
trict, he pointed out that as
long as there is increasing
population there will be in
creasing school costs.
Hockersmith Indicated thai
the school board is not un-
haDDy that the secondary
school building program has
been delayed a year by the
Phoenix Medford consolida
tion proposal and school budg
et matters.
Two Reason Olven
He gave two reasons. One
Is the opportunity that came
to observe new Ideas else
where. The other is the fact
that the proposed high school
site for constructing a new
high school may be undesir
able because of its proximity
to the municipal airport.
The board chairman listed
five reasons why a citizens
committee and study groups
are important to the second
ary school program. Neverthe
less, he brought out that the
school board has the responsi
bility on whatever decision is
made.
Reasons Included the
amount of money Involved;
the prejudices and biases for
or against having Just one
high school; the question of
whether a new building
should be built or the present
one added to If It is decided
to have Just one high rather
than two; if a new high sch'jol
is built, where wlll.it be
erected and how many grades
will be Included in high
school, and new approaches to
teaching.
Don Koclna of West Coast
airlines was introduced as a
new Medford ' Klwanls ' club
member.
