Fire Restrictions Become Effective
MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD. OREGON
Yreka - Restrictions in the
use of fire on lands of the
Klamath National forest went
into effect today, according to
Joseph F. Thornton, Yreka,
Calif., forest supervisor.
Campfire permits are man
datory and may be obtained
at any forest service station
or designated agents display
ing signs. No charge is made.
However, the per m i 1 1 e e
agrees to comply with require
ments of the permit as to
methods of building fires, put
ting them out, properly dis
posing of refuse and observing
the state fish and game laws.
The Permittee also agrees
to be responsible that all in
his party know and abide by
the regulations.
Smoking will be allowed at
places of habitation, camp
grounds and in cars when
traveling. Hikers are pro
hibited from smoking except
wnen me smoker stops, clears
a circle three feet in diameter
to mineral soil and extin
guishes all ashes and embers
in the cleared space. The same
applies for those who walk on
a forest road, except no clear
ing is necessary, the super
visor noted.
Persons who ride motor
cycles, in the back of trucks
or pickups or on horseback
must follow the same rules as
the foot travelers.
