    MEBFORD MAIL TRIBUNE. MEDFORD, OREGON
The Family Council
MONDAY. JUNE S. IMS
y fiainl features Corp.)
Mrs. L.D.-How can I make
my daughter-in-law see a
psychiatrist?
Gilda D. - Talk like that
will break up my brother's
marriage.
M. L.D. - My daughter-in-law
acts so peculiar that
she must be sick. She admits
she hates her lather, yet she
walked down the aisle with
him at an elaborate wedding.
Three hours after she and my
son left on their honeymoon
they were back in my home,
ami for nine weeks she re
fused to move to their own
home. Now she does mean
things like dialing numbers
and not talking, or smashing
my good china. She fools
people because when she's
nice she's really very nice.
My son still can't see his own
danger.
Gilda D. - My brother
adores his wife, and finds
exciting, cute or "just an ac
cident" all the things my
mother considers "nutty
about her. They've been mar
ried only five months and al
ready they avoid our home
because they feel my mother
is too hard on Lily. For
example, when Lily ham
mered a hole in the linoleum
as she mended a picture
frame, Mother accused her
Americans Die
In Indian Crash
New Delhi - (UPI) - An In
dian Airlines plane crashed
today in northwest India, and
an airline official said all 29
aboard were killed, includ
ing six Americans.
Among the victims were
Prof. James C. Laverty, 40,
of the University of Illinois,
his wife, and their three chil
dren. One other American,
identified only as a Miss P.
Hardman, was among the pas
sengers. Ten of the victims were be
lieved to be children.
An airline spokesman, who
disclosed the crash, said the
plane was flying from Arnrit-
sar, in the Punjab, to Srina
gar, capital of Kashmir. It
crashed near Pathankot.
The U.S. Embassy said the
passengers included Laverty,
40, an associate professor of
soil studies at the University
of Illinois, his wife, Jeanne,
39, and their three sons, Ste
phen, 16, Michael J., 15, and
Gregory J., 13.
Laverty arrived in India
last December to teach soil
management at the Ralwant
Rajput College in Agra under
and American aid contract.
of doing it on purpose. All I
Know is that my brother
seems satisfied and Mother
must be quiet.
Tht Council: An under
water diver, Peter R. Wisher,
has worked out a language
ior use among the coral reefs
and octopuses. "We limit our
vocabulary," be says, "to use
ful words. For example,
there's no word for mother-in-law!"
Well, not yet. But if
wishes ever become sub
marines, how many Mrs. D.'s
would be consigned to the
bottom of the sea? ... To
answer your big question,
Mrs. D., you'll never get Lily
to a psychiatrist, not even to
a general practitioner. She'll
get to a doctor when she has
a question, not you. Your
best bet would be to com
municate your fears to her
doctor, without telling any
one. If he agrees with you,
he'll have a better chance
than you to win your son's
and Lily's cooperation. But
just suppose Lily feels it's
you who needs therapy? Stop
worrying about your son's
marriage. If he should ask
your advice, however, be sure
you have a fair and construe
tive reply lined up.
