WWNA HEAR SOME NEW NAMES FOR A FIAT TIR?
On the Air
By ELEANOR WIESE
"The Kremlin," the NBC
News program described by
critics as "remarkable," "stun
nins " "fascinating" and "em
inently educative," will be re
broadcast Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
on KMED-TV.
Originally telecast two
weeks ago, the major factor
in scheduling the re-telecast
so soon was the unprecedent
ed response from the public
and from television critics.
According to Time magazine,
"seldom has a TV show been
so discussed and applauded
as NBC's tour of the Krem
lin." , The actual filming was
done last fall with full Rus
sian cooperation before NBC
News angered the Soviet with
its studies of Khrushchev and
communism. It was rumored
that many concessions were
made when Mrs. Jarvis, wife
of the associate producer,
tempted the Russians with
homemade brownies.
The program re - created
events that took place in the
walled fortress during five
centuries - from the early
Moscow princes to Czar Peter
the Great. The. Soviet era of
the Kremlin was illustrated
with scenes of Lenin's apart
ment and the Palace of Con
gresses. The Moscow fire de
partments responded with a
dozen fire trucks, in spite of
previous warnings, when the
cameramen use smoke pots
and magnesium flares to re
create the burning of the
Kremlin by Napoleon.
"Obtaining 'The Kremlin'
was a remarkable accomplish
ment and American viewers
are fortunate that the project
succeeded," wrote the Chicago
Daily News' TV columnist
Terry Turner.
The New York Times critic
Jack Gould called it ". . . An
accomplishment of stunning
magnificence ... A landmark
in the medium's capability for
enrichment."
Harriet Van Home, syndi
cated Scripps-Howard TV crit
ic, felt "It was an experience
none of us is likely to forget.
Stunning seems an inadequate
word for such an hour steeped
as it was in history, grandeur,
piety and horror."

Johnson's Help
On Rights Sough)
Washington - (UPD - Sen.
Kenneth B. Keating (R-N.Y.)
asked Vice President Lyndon
B. Johnson today to change
"his pro-filibuster rulings"
and help support civil rights
legislation in the Senate.
Kcating's statement indi
cated the coming debate over
new civil rights bills expect
ed to be presented this week
by the administration might
be a renewal of the GOP at
tacks on Johnson. Last Jan
uary, during a rules fight,
the vice president ruled the
Senate should make up its
own mind about ending de
' bate.
Sen. Jacob K. Javits (R
N. Y.) charged then that John
son was evading his respon
sibility in not ruling against
filibusters which have been
used in the past to block en
actment of civil rights leg
islation. k-r-Mino insisted that John
son would play a "crucial
role" in the impending legis
lative showdown. He said he
hoped the vice president s Me
mnrial Dav address about civ-
ii rinht "means that he is
prepared to pave the way for
Brinn in anri racial strife."
Keating contended it would
be possible to change the
Senate's gag rule anytime and
Johnson could help that
cause along with cooperative
rulings.
