Two-Day Short Course Is Planned
Corvallis-A two-day short Corps of Engineers, have spe-
course on "Critical Path
Scheduling" will be presented
as a service to the construc
tion industry of the Pacific
Northwest June 27 and 28 at
Oregon State university.
Purpose of the course Is
to acquaint contractors, engi
neers and architects with the
basic concepts and working
rules of critical path sched
uling - a new planning and
programming technique in
construction.
Jobs on the "critical path"
require the contractors' prime
attention. Recently, some of
the nation's largest buyers of
construction, including the
cificd that contractors
critical path methods.

Medford Man Injured
In Morning Accident
Jimmy Dee Boone, 24, of
236 North Oakdale ave., was
slightly injured about 3:44
o'clock this morning when his
car struck a parked vehicle on
Holly st. near Grape St., ac
cording to Medford police.
The parked vehicle was reg
istered to Blaine Biles, 617
North Holly st. Boone did not
require hospitalization. No ci
tations were issued, officers
said.

Spring Concert Set At Hedrick Friday
Hedrlck Junior High school
will present Its annual Spring
Band and Orchestra concert at
8 p.m. Friday, May 24, in the
school auditorium.
The concert will include a
variety of music ranging from
the "Finale" from Beethoven's
"Fifth Symphony" to the
"Bugler's Holiday" for trum
pet trio by Lcroy Anderson.
The concert is open to the
public without admission
charge. Ronald Bartlett Is di
rector of both the school's jun
ior and varsity bands.

JFK Arranges
For Student Prom

Kennedy will see to it that
students at the John Bur
roughs High School in Bur
bank, Calif., get their senior
prom the night of June 7 at
the Beverly Hilton Hotel in
Los Angeles after all.
Kennedy will be attending
a $1,000-a -plate Democratic
fund-raising dinner the same
night in the same hotel. He
learned Wednesday that 600
students wer - because
the prom they had scheduled
for the ballroom had been
bumped by the President's
birthday fund-raising dinner,

inger told reporters that when
Kennedy heard about the row
he called California Demo
cratic State Chairman Eugene
Wyman and told him to work
out other arrangements. Wy
man arranged for the high
school students to have the
ballroom and the Democrats
would hold telr dinner in the
Starlight and Escoffier rooms
at the hotel.
"Two rooms at the price of
one," quipped Salinger. He
added that "we hope the kids
have a good time."
"The students are very ex
cited and very appreciative of
-- - the Presid-nt did," said
Mrs. Elizabeth Hill, student
body advisor at the Burbank
school. "We were dumbfound
ed by all the notoriety the
matter got, but we were sure
all along it was just a misunderstanding."

ond vice president recently of
the Oregon Optometric asso
ciation at the group's state
convention in Bend.
Dr. William E. Shackelford,
Albany, was elected presi
dent. Most of the new offi
cers have had prior service
on the OOA board. Dr.
Thompson has directed op
tometry's public informa
tional campaigns.
Preliminary results of an
eight-month study of the vis
ual characteristics among Ore
gon's mentally retarded chil
dren were reported during the
convention.
The pilot projects, started
in 19S8, were so favorably re
ceived by parents, that simi
lar studies have been held in
Albany, Bend, Corvallis, Hood
River, Medford, Redmond,
Sweet Home, The Dalles, and
Tillamook. The project will
end next month with a clinic
scheduled in Grants Pass.

day. May 24 and 25.
The flowers that will be
sold locally have been as
sembled by the veterans at
the Veterans Administration
domiciliary, White City.

English contains many tech
nical words of Arabic origin,
including alkali, alcohol, al
chemy, algebra, amalgam,
nadir, cipher.
