Fall Colors
Said Bright.
Portland - What milady
will be wearing come fall, as
well as the new back-to-school
lines for the younger set, will
be unveiled for the several
hundred buyers attending the
Fall Market of the Greater
Portland Apparel association
to be held in the Multnomah
and Plaza hotels, May 19-21.
Stretch fabrics are the big
news in both ladies' and chil
dren's wear, according to
many of the exhibitors. The
handful of mills which pro
duce stretch fabrics have
placed clothing manufacturers
on allocations for the remain
der of 1963, so heavy is the
trend in this direciton.
The new fall colors include
cranberry and bluegrass, with
dark brown and eggplant (a
deep purple) holding strong.
Royal blue and olive will also
be shown with fire-red among
the preferable colors for la
dles' coats.
"The muted shades will be
played down, in favor of the
bright reds, blues and
brown s," according to a
spokesman for the exhibitors.
There appears to be a def
inite novelty trend in the
sweater lines and knit gar
ments are expected to take
the lead in casual wear.
Indicative of the high inter
est in strong colors is the
plan by one glove manufactur
er to display 32 different col
or lines for the fall season.
