Car Overturns - A car driv

overturned late Thursday
night when it went into a
slide at a turn in the road on
Helman st. near Nevada si.,
Ashland police reported. The
only injury reported, how
ever, was a cut linger suffer
ed by a passenger, John Par

The accident was reported at
10:55 p.m.

Blanche Canode,
Ex-Teacher, Dies;
Services Are Set
Funeral services for Blanche
D. Canode, 88, of 1716 Crown
ave., who died Thursday, will
be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in
St. Mark's Episcopal church.
The Rev. George R. V. Bol
ster, rector of the church, will
officiate. Interment in Siski
you Memorial park will be
private. Perl Funeral home is
in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Canode was born May
18, 1873, in Bushnell, 111. On
Oct. S, 1906, she was married
to George B. Canode in Bushnell.
They lived in Biwabik,
Minn., until 1910, when they
moved to Medford. She taught
first grade in the Medford
public schools at Washington
school and at Roosevelt school
from 1910 until her retirement
in 1945.
In 1948, she was elected as
woman of the year by the
Medford Zonta club. She was
a member of PEO, Retired
Teachers association and Del
ta Kappa Gamma Sorority,
Epsilon chapter.
Mr. Canode preceded her in
death in 1939.
Survivors' include one sis
ter, Mrs. Gertrude Warnock,
Medford, and one niece, Mrs.
June Hooker, Beverly Hills,
Calif.
Friends who wish may
make a contribution to their
favorite charity in her memory.

Funeral services for Miss
Ellen Phipps, 81, of 725 Cra
ter Lake ave., who died Thurs
day, will be held at 11 a.m.
Saturday in Conger - Morris
downtown chapel.
The Rev. Fredrick Ross
Evans of the First Christian
church will officiate, assisted
by the Rev. Bernard Andrews
of the First Baptist church.
Committal will be In East
wood Odd Fellows cemetery.
Miss Phipps was born May
15, 1882, in Medford, a daugh
ter of Preston and Alia
Phipps. Her father moved to
the valley In 1852, and pur
chased land In 1870 from John
W. Hillman, the discovered of
Crater Lake, and the family
has retained the property
since then.
Her mother, Alia Lowery,
moved to the valley in 1875
at the age of 18. The Phipps
family was one of the first
families in the valley.
Survivors include a broth
er, Lee Phipps, Medford; two
sisters, Mrs. Isabella Phipps
Hansen, of Portland, and Mrs.
Effie Phipps Hendershott, of
Eugene; and several nieces
and nephews.
Casket bearers will include
Kenneth Meadows, Norman
Thames. Wilber Hunt, Clar
ence Pierce, Red Robinson
and Bernard Newhouse.

local nursing home. Funeral

Word was received here
Thursday of the death of Mrs.
W. S. Emmingham, formerly
of Medford, at Kellogg, Idaho.
In Medford, Mrs. Emming
ham made her home on Wood
row lane. She Is survived by
four children at home; a son
in Boise. Ida., a daughter,
Mrs. James L. Hopkins, Shady
Cove, and a brother, Ray E.
Doty, Medford.
Funeral services will be
held in Kellogg.

ROY E. DENZER
Ashland - Roy Earl Denzer,
65, of 865 Blaine St., Ashland,
died Monday in the Southern
Pacific hospital In San Francisco.
. He was born Dec. 21, 1897,
in st Paul. Minn. He moved
to Ashland in 1940 from Phoe-
nix, Ore.
Mr Denzer was a private
In the Marine Corps during
World War I.
Survivnm include his wife.

daughter, Bette Denzer, Asn
land; a son, Robert Denzer,
Ashland; two stepsons, can

KENNETH BALDWIN
Funeral services for Ken
neth H. Baldwin, 58, former
resident of Jackson county,
will be held at the Lane mor
tuary in Battle Ground,
Wash., at 2 p.m. Monday,
May 13. Interment will be in
the Memorial Gardens at Van
couver, Wash.
Mr. Baldwin died at Yacolt,
Wash., Wednesday!
Born at P'rovolt Sept. 30,
1904, he was educated in the
Jackson county schools and
attended Southern Oregon col
lege in Ashland for one year.
He worked for the Ashland
fire department and for Skeet-
era Logging company before
moving to Washington about
eight years ago.
The son of the late Mar
shall and Rose Baldwin of
Ashland, he is survived by
his wife, Montcy Baldwin,
and three children; a broth
er, John R. Baldwin of Tal
ent; a sister, Mrs. Louise
Berke, Portland, and an aunt,
Miss Anne O'Brien, Ashland;
and two grandchildcn.
