Wedding of
Interest Here
A wedding of interest in
Medford was held at the Pres
byterian church In Escalon,
Calif., when Miss Georgia
Louis Lemkuil became the
bride of Walter Olaf Peter
son, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar
Peterson, 709 Aider street,
Medford.
The bride is a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Lemkuil,
Oakdale, Calif.
Shortly after the ceremony
the bridegroom's parents left
to travel in Norway and
Sweden.
The Rev. Russell Chandler
officiated at the 8 o'clock eve
ning rites held March 23.
John Krause, San Jose, was
organist and Mrs. Don Rush
ton, Fairfax, sister of the
bride, was soloist.
The bride wore a gown of
lace over satin fashioned with
full skirt which formed a
cathedral train. The portrait
neckline was accented with
pearls and the skirt front had
a panel of ruffles. Her finger
tip length veil was held by a
crown of apple blossoms and
she carried a bouquet of white
roses and the handkerchief
her mother had carried at her
wedding.
Mrs. Rushton was her sis
ter's honor attendant. She
wore a white lace over satin
frock and carried pink rose
buds. Norman Peterson, Medford,
was best man. Seating the
guests were Dale Lemkjil,
brother of the bride; Alfred
Peterson, brother of the
bridegroom, and Jerry Ander
son. Gladioli, stock and chrys
anthemums d f c o r a t e d the
church.
Mrs. Lemkuil chose a navy
blue shantung frock with pink
accessories. Mrs. Peterson
wore a beige lace. Both had
corsages of pink roses.
Some 250 relatives and
friends attended the recep
tion which followed In the
church social hall. Miss Claire
James, San Francisco, played
the background piano music.
Mrs. Marvin Johnson was in
charge of the guest book. i
The couple traveled along
the coast to San Simeon on
their wedding trip, the bride
wearing a wheat colored two
piece mohair suit with wheat
colored cobra accessories.
The bride is a graduate
from Escalon Union High
school and the San Francisco
Conservatory of Music. Mr.
Peterson attended Medford
High school and attended car
penter's apprenticeship trade
school in San Francisco.

Temple Women
To Be Honored
At Event Here
Past queens and charter
members of Zulelma temple,
Daughters of the Nile, will be
honored next Saturday, May
11, when the order meets at
Medford Masonic temple. A
luncheon will be held at 12
noon and the stated meeting
is scheduled at 1 p.m. The
temple patrol, captained by
Mrs. Lorraine Smith, will be
in charge of the luncheon.
Zuleima temple was char
tered May 13, 1922 and will
celebrate its 41st anniversary.
During the business meet
ing final plans will be made
for the supreme session to be
held in Reno, Nev June 8
through 13. Delegates from
Zuleima temple will be Mrs.
Murray Gardiner, queen, and
Mrs. G. A. Barnhart, Gold
Beach, princess royal. They
will be accompanied by the
temple's three uniformed
units, the patrol, chorus and
dancers.
Mrs. Gardiner will report
on her official visits. She has
visited the chorus at Grants
Pass, and Illinois Valley,
Klamath Falls and Lake
County Nile clubs. On Tues
day, May 7, she will visit the
dancers at Eugene, and on
Wednesday, May 8, will visit
the patrol at Medford. Other
club visitations scheduled for
this month include Roseburg,
May 10; Gold Beach, May 14;
Cottage Grove, May IS; Eu
gene, May 16, and Brookings-
Harbor, May 28.
FOE Auxiliary
Raises Funds
For Layettes
Central Point - Mrs. Allen
Hilkey, Central Point, was
hostess for a card party and
innrhrnn In her home last
week which was attended by
members of the auxiliary to
the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
The event was held to col
lect donations of funds and
materials for layettes for
needy mothers. Anyone inter
ested in contributing to the
project should contact Mrs.
Owen Buchanan, 114 Oak
drive. Central Point, tele
phone 864-1145.
The next benefit card party
will be held Thursday, May
9 at 9:30 a.m.. In the home
of Mrs. Ben F. Moore, Box
190. Butte Falls Star route,
Eagle Point. Luncheon will be
served by the hostess at nooi.

taineer Rebekahs in Glendale,

Mabel Winston Named
AAUW Woman of Year
Ashland- Mrs. Clarence
(Mabel) Winston, registrar and
dean of women at Southern
Oregon college, was chosen
Woman of the Year at the
annual American Association
of University Women's break
fast May 4 in the Mark An
tony hotel. She was one of
three finalists. The runners-up
were Mrs. John Scott Hall and
Mrs. Pierre Roberts.

was announced by Mrs. Fred
Rosenstretton, chairman o f
the status of women commit
tee which was in charge of the
project for the Ashland chap
ter, AAUW.
Edward Thuma of the col
lege social science depart
ment, was the breakfast speak
er. His subject was "Do Peo
ple Have the Right To Be
Cheated."
Dr. Beverley Bennett, chap
ter president, presided.
During the event Miss Lois
May was installed president
for the coming year.
Mrs. Winston serves as pres
ident of the Ashland Soropto
mist club; has been chairman
for the AAUW-Rotary Young
Adults conference in Ashland
for 11 years; now is chairman
of the national AAUW nomi
nating committee and has
served as state president and
was regional vice president of
AAUW for six years.
She also is chairman of the
Pacific Coast Registrars and
Administrative officers; was
responsible for getting accred
itation of Southern Oregon
college women graduates for
AAUW; is a member and past
officer of the Oregon Educa
tion association and the Na
tional Education association.
