There are about 176 youngsters fn the first grade at Jewett school. Central Point,. and they turned the school into a circus one recent
evening. The boys and girls gave a program called "Visit to the Circus" for their friends and parents, and everyone had a great time.
The program was almost over when this gay scene was staged by children from Mrs. Zelma Foote's room.

Roni Korner was the lion tamer and whip in hand she put the
make believe lions, really her classmates, through their paces.
Rom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Korner, and her teacher
is Miss Ha Mae Higinbotham.

Wearing costume headdresses, five pupils from Miss Higinbotham's room were the circus ponies. Waiting their turn to
perform are (left to right) Jay Overen, Joy Ullom, Jeffrey Poltruff, Daniel Lewis and Larry Haines. The circus also had kan
garoos, camels, lions, tigers and all manner of lively animals. . : j . '

The vouno spectators in the audience were as excited by the make believe circus as they would have been by a real one. Mrs.
Ruth Brewster was music director for the program, and trained the children to sing the background music for the acts. There
are seven first grade rooms at Jewett school, and the other teachers who helped present the program were Mrs. Oakley Bowers,
Mrs. Katherlne leavilt, Mrs. Rhoda Haskins, and Mrs. Ruby Brndshaw.

Blonde Kiren Friesen, all dressed up as a tight rope walker, sat on the floor to adjust her silk slippers. Karen's parents
are Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Friesen, and Mrs. Friesen made her daughter's costume. Strong men, clowns and all the other
traditional circus characters were in the program.
