strikes 1661. I Announcing the postpone
ment, promoter Al Bolan of
Champion ship Sports, Inc.,
said, "Floyd consented to the
postponement only when his
surgeon insisted Friday that
he positively refrain from
using his right fist in training
for about four weeks."
In Denver, Colo., the usual
ly sullen, 220-pound Litton
grunted, "It's okay with me"
- a remark which amounted
to a roar of approval from thc
champion, whose injured left
knee forced thc previous post
ponement from April 10 and
the transfer of the bout from
Miami Beach, Fla., to Las
Vegas, Nov.
Patterson's surgeon, Dr. Ed
win H. Douglass Jr., of New
burgh, N.Y., explained today:
"I removed a benign tumor
about the size of a dime from
between the fourth and fifth
knuckles of Patterson's right
hand last Saturday and when
he visited me yesterday I had
to forbid him from using the
right fist for punching for at
least a month."
Bolan indicated it was he -not
Patterson - who actually
forced the issue of the new
postponement.
