Princess Alexandra and her
bridegroom, Angus Ogilvy,
left St. James palace Wednes
day for their honeymoon in
Scotland. The bride was wear
ing a flamingo pink fitted
suit with matching coat.
They had just come from
their wedding reception in
St. James palace attended by
some 500 guests. The princess
now will be known as Her
Royal Highness Princess Alex
andra, the Hon. Mrs. Angus
Ogilvy.
The couple's wedding ear
lier that day in Westminster
abbey was described as hav
ing a grander showing from
British and European royalty
than for Queen Elizabeth's
wedding in 1947, after World
War n.
Led by Queen Elizabeth II
and Prince Philip, more than
120 members of royal houses,
including one reigning king,
four queens and three crown
princes were among the
guests in the abbey. A crowd
estimated at 500,000 watched
the couple as they rode from
the abbey to the palace in
a glass coach drawn by four
gray horses with two gold
liveried footmen.
Archbishop Presides
The Archbishop of Canter
bury, Dr. Arthur M. Ramsey,
who performed the ceremony,
conducted his first royal wed
ding in the abbey.
Princess Alexandra wore a
magnolia tinted lace gown
with a 20-foot train, designed
by John Cavanaugh. With it
she wore a matching veil held
from a diamond tiara which
had been worn by her mother,
Princess Marina of Greece,
when she became the bride
of the Duke of Kent.
The gown which had an
all-over pattern of acorns and
leaves was made with a high
neck and molded waist, and
sleeves which came to the
wrist. Her veil was edged
with Valenciennes lace, a pres
ent from her grandmother,
Princess Nicholas of Greece.
She carried a small bouquet.
The bride's choice of child
bridesmaids had been a sur
prise to many for she is five
feet, nine inches tall, unlike
her cousin, Princess Margaret,
who selected young girls for
her attendants because of her
petite size. Princess Ann, 12,
daughter of Queen Elizabeth
II and Prince Philip, headed
the group of five girls who
attended Princess Alexandra.
Their dresses were of stiffen
ed white silk. .Princess Anne's
hair was styled with a chig
non high on her head, en
circled with a white band.
It was believed that Prin
cess Alexandra chose the
young bridesmaids as a diplo
matic gesture. There are 18
unmarried princesses In Eur
ope, all equally eligible to
have attended her. She is a
relative to many and la ac
quainted with all of them. To
have made a choice could
have offended those not
chosen.
Princess Attends
Princess Anne held the
bride's bouquet and stood
through the ceremony. The
other four bridesmaids with
two young pages in white
jackets and tartan kilts, sat
on hassocks borrowed from
Windsor castle.
The princess was escorted
by her brother, the Duke of
Kent, and the wedding group
walked on a carpet of bright
blue.
Best man was Peregrine
