Picks Yank,
Giant Nines
UPI Sporls Writer
Augusta, Ga. (UPD - The
New York Yankees and . . .
er . . er . . . er the San
Francisco Giants.
That's now this sports
writer predicted the major
league baseball pennant fin
ishes last year - and they both
came through.
There's little question about
picking the Yankees again:
they appear so superior to any
of the other clubs in the
American league. But picking
in the National league is vast
ly different.
Three clubs look strong.
There are four others who
could do it without surprising
anyone too much.
Here's the predicted finish:
American League
New York Yankees
Baltimore Orioles
Detroit Tigers
Chicago White Sox
Cleveland Indians
Boston Red Sox
Minnesota Twins
Kansas City Athletics
Los Angeles Angels
Washington Senators
National League
San Francisco Giants
Cincinnati Reds
Los Angeles Dodgers
St. Louis Cardinals
Philadelphia Phillies
Pittsburgh Pirates
Milwaukee Braves
Chicago Cubs
New York Mets
Houston Colts
Rhyme or reason for these
choices?
Not too much except spend
ing seven weeks in Florida
watching the clubs training
down there, hearing scouts
and others report on the clubs
training in Arizona and Florida.
Teams Win
At Home
United Press International
The Western Hockey league
playoffs are moving along on
a tried - and - true formula:
home rink equals victory.
Seven games have been
played in the Southern and
Northern division playoffs so
far, and the home team has
come out on top every time.
The playoffs give the team
finishing higher in the regu
lar season standings the right
to play the deciding games of
the best-of-three and best-of-seven
meetings at its own
arena.
Upholding the formula Sun
day night were Seattle, which
downed Edminton 3-2 to win
its first round playoff series
over Edmonton, and Portland,
which knocked off San Fran
cisco 6-3 in the first game of
the Southern division finals.
Beavers Win
Power Show
DeLand, Fla. - tUPD - Port

power show Sunday with the
Beavers winning the Pacific

The mentor indicated that
the Raiders are at near full
strength. Only player on the
ailing list has been Rossetto,
who sprained an ankle last
week. Schopf reported, how
ever, reported that Rossetto
has been running laps and
that he plans to play him.
Only reason for keeping the
outfielder out of the lineup
would be apparent danger of
further injury to the ankle.
