Musa commented: ''Ways

When we pass the budget

Barton said the governor

Both Barton and Musa said

Barton said he applauded

Favorable Vote
For Braden Seen
In California
Sacramento - HJPD - With a
friendly push from the Senate
KU108 committee, Thomas w.
i Bladen's reappointment to the
State Board of Education was
headinc today toward final ac
tion on the Senate floor.
Although the Rules commit
tee had not yet voted on the
reappointment. Chairman
Hugh Burns (D-Fresno) said
that members had discussed
it privately and indications
were that the vote "would be
favorable."
Burns, who has said that
Braden's opposition failed to
make a case, predicted that
floor action would come to
morrow.
The only senator who has
I announced his opposition to
Braden, Jack Schrade (R-San
I Diego), continued to predict
I that he could muster enough
votes to block the reappoint
ment. Braden supporters need
: 27 "ayes" in the 40-man upper
house.
Just as Certain
But a number of senators,
including Rules committee
member Stanley Arnold (D
Slisanville), deny that Schrade
can do it. "I'm just as certain
Jl now as I was last month thai
Braden will be reappointed,"
I Arnold said.
A favorable vote by the full
Senate would end an ang-y
I controversy that began Feb. I
21 when Schrade announced!
that he would oppose Braden's
reappointment to a second
four-year term on the board.
1 His statement triggered a del-
uge of letters into the capital,
