Ashland - Dr. E. C. McGM,
assistant to the president at
Southern Oregon college and
member of the National Coun
cil for Small Business Man
agement Development, has
nominated Bert Wright, Ash
land, secretary treasurer of
the M. C. Lininger and Sons,
Inc., a contracting firm, for
the NCSBMD national award
for the most outstanding man
in small business.
Members of the national or
ganization may each nominate
one person they feel has
shown outstanding achieve
ment and progress in small
business provided that the
nominee has completed a
small business management
course within the past five
years. Wright completed the
small business administration
course last spring at Southern
Oregon college.
In addition to the many ad
vances in the production and
packaging of pre -mix con
crete, brick mortar, and grout
mixture aimed at the "do it
yourself" market, Wright and
the Lininger brothers pioneer
ed in the production of a large
concrete pipe plant for cul
vert and sewer work.
Use of Trucks
Since the founding of the
Lininger firm, in 1942, strides
also have been made in the
use of ready mix trucks which
delivered fresh concrete in the
proper quantities for large or
small Jobs.
Wright realized that the
best salesmen for the company
were the drivers of the trucks
and he worked with the other
members of the company
to give each of them a sound
knowledge of the composition
of concrete and how it reacts
under different conditions.
From time to time, Wright
attended concrete engineering
courses sponsored by the Na
tional Readymix Concrete as
sociation and participated in
short courses in concrete in
spection and technology at
Oregon State university.
