Imported Knits Come From Many Countries
Imported knits are once
again very much in the spring
fashion picture Austrian
and Belgian entries feature
lace-like, open work stitches
for summer effect, and novel
ty knits that resemble straw
braiding. Trims include crochet edg
ing, embroidery and appliques.
These also favor permanent
plisse skirts, flared skirts, 3
piece suits, and cape-jackets.
Colors are pale, with blues
and yellow, pinks and peach
and other novelties used in
combination.
Italian knits, follow clean,
uncluttered lines; meature el
egantly coordinated two and
three-piece outfits.

Ashland Man Is
Honored at Event
Ralph I. Robertson, 9800
Highway 99, Ashland, an em
ployee of the Oregon state
highway department for the
past 27 years, was recently
honored by the Crater Lake
Chapter of the Oregon State
Employee's association.
Robertson started with the
Siskiyou section maintenance
station in 193S, and remained
with that crew until his re
tirement in February.
Earl E. Bridgeman, a fellow
employee, was master of cer
emonies at the dinner, at
which Robertson was pre
sented a bronze plaque signed
by members of the Oregon
state highway commission
commending him for the long
years of service given the
Highway department.
A cake with a rocking chair
on top, suggesting leisure dur
ing his retirement, and sleep
ing bags and a gasoline stove
for camping also were pre
sented Robertson and his wife
by the crews of the five sec
tion stations in Jackson
county.
The dinner was followed by
a business meeting and a
safety movie shown by C. J.
Douglas of the Industrial Ac
cident commission.

Wendf Resigns as Principal in GP
Grants Pass - Robert C.
Wendt, principal of the High
land elementary school here,
has announced his resignation
effective at the end of the cur
rent school year.
He plans to pursue gradu
ate studies leading to a doc
torate. He has been awarded
a graduate assistantship at the
University of Oregon school
of education.
Wendt is immediate past
president of the Oregon Ele
mentary Principals associa
tion. He has been active in
education and community af
fairs here.
A graduate of Southern
Oregon college, he has been
employed by the Grants Pass
city school district through
out his 16 years as an edu
cator, first as a classroom
teacher, then as principal of
Roosevelt and Riverside
schools, before assuming the
post at Highland.
