that Battle believes Is the

This gigantic tank stands
five feet high and is seven
feet long. There are 150
pounds of sand in the bottom

types of greenery.
Different kinds of fish huts
are displayed along the bot

dents of the tank can travel
through all the little housing
units-that Is all but the huge
White Kissing Gouramie, who
seems to say when to his cha

I'm the biggest," and leisure

of his empire.

The tank is filled with 150
gallons of water, which Is

self-filtering unit. Lighting is
furnished by two flouresceni

The Batties breed and
nurse all these hundreds of
tropical fish. They say they
actually know the exact
number.
The smaller aquariums are
used solely for breeding pur
poses.
Battle is past president of
the tropical fish club associ

studied fish for some 12
years.

readily seen in the aquari
um," he said.
"Many tropical fish, such
as the Betta, the famous Sia
mese fighting fish, build a
floating nest of bubbles to
protect the eggs. By cross
breeding, the children can ex
periment and even breed
their own fish. For Instance,
by crossbreeding, you can
breed fish with differing
colors and physical charac
teristics." Study Pollution
"The study of water pollu
tion can be made simple and
easy with an aquarium," he
went on. "By introducing for
eign elements to the water,
effect on the fish may be
studied. Amounts of acidity
and alkalinity can be studied,
evaluated and adjusted. Wat
er can be taken from different
sources in the community,
and the resulting effect on
fish and acquatic plants can
be determined. The filtration
equipment of the aquarium is
a study in itself.
"Studies of diseases, in
psychology can be made in
aquarium. Getting the fish to
mate and court at a certain
time, inducing crossbreeding
and fish movements by psy
chology can be educational
and fun for the children."

'Roadeo' Slated
In Eagle Point
By DOTTIE HARBISON
Mall Tribune Correspondent
Eagle Point-More than 100
Eagle Point youngsters are ex
pected to wheel their bicycles
through a test driving course,
submit them to a safety in
spection and have them mark
ed with reflective tape during
the Eagle Point Junior Cham
ber of Commerce Bicycle
"Roadeo' 'to be held Saturday
at the Eagle Point Grade
School playground.
Harold Hanscom, Jaycee
chapter president, said the bi
cycle safety committee re
sponsible for the program has
secured a new bicycle to be
used as a prize. The bicycle, a
red and white Columbia with
white sidewalls and twin
headlights was donated by the
Toy World of the Medford
Shopping center. It will be
given to the boy or girl scor
ing highest in the riding skills
portion of the roadeo.
Six Eagle Point policemen
will be on hand to assist the
Jaycees, according to Assist
ant Police Chief Robert
Moore, who has assisted in the
planning and promotion of
the program.
Registration of bicycles will
begin at 1 p.m. A permanent
file of the registered bicycles
will be kept in the city hall to
aid the police department in
identifying and recovering
stolen bicycles in the future.
Committee chairman Keith
Krambeal announced that the
Roadea will be open to all
Eagle Point area youngsters
up through the eighth grade.
There will be no charge or
registration fee for partici
pants. A special assembly was
held for all youngsters in both
the grade and primary schools
at Eagle Point last week with
a film featuring J 1 m m e n y
Cricket showing the young
sters both bad and correct bi
cycle riding.
At this time Moore told the
youngsters that the police de
partment had had several
complaints on bicycle viola
tions and improper riding and
useage of them by youngsters
in Eagle Point.
He pointel out to the youths
that following the Roadeo in
which all present will be giv
en additional instruction and
practice on safe riding, all vio
lators will be apprehended by
the police department.
He explained further that
this was primarily for their
own protection as the Browns
boro highway running
through Eagle Point will soon
be used as a through street for
heavy traffic from the Klam
ath Falls and Lake of the
Woods road, and precaution
and preventative measures
now may avoid serious acci
dents with cars, pedestrians
as well as bicycle riders later
on.

Gold Hill The IOOF and
Rebekah lodges building fund

$616.22, according to Mrs.
Charles Stripling, general
chairman of the project.
She said at least $3,000 will
have to be raised before any
work is commenced. Plans
are still indifinite as to just
what will be done, since this
depends on finances, she said.
The old building is badly
in need of repair and remod

storms during recent years
have caused extensive dam
