Plan Award
Luncheon
Plans are being formed now
by the Medford Jayceettes for
their annual merit award of
the year luncheon set for May
11 at 12:30 p.m., in North's
Chuck Wagon restaurant.
Letters have been-sent to
women's organizations in the
Medford area asking them to
select a candidate for the
award.
The merit award will be
presented to an outstanding
woman who has contributed
service work to her commun
ity. In 1860 Mis. Edward P.
Barnett, sponsored by the Ki
wanian Dames, became the
first recipient. The 1061 win
ner was Mrs. Frank M. Wil
son, sponsored by Crater
Lions auxiliary. Last year's
winner was Mrs. Thcordore
P. Barss, sponsored by the
Medford branch, American
Association of University
Women. Mrs. Barss was ac
tive In numerous community
service projects.

Harold Vickers are making
their home at 2761 South Pa
cific highway, Medford, fol
lowing their return from a
wedding trip to the coast.
The couple was married
March 1 in a ceremony held
in the chapel at the First Bap
tist church in Grants Pass.
The Rev. LeeRoy Fraser offi
ciated. The bride is the former
Linda Evans, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. W. M. Evans, Rogue
River. Mr. Vickers' parents
are Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Pen-
ter, Harbor, Ore.
About 45 relatives and
friends attended the 8 o'clock
evening rites. Red and white
carnations and white chrysan
themums decorated the
church for the wedding.
The bride wore a white bal
lcrina length frock of brocade
and her veil was held by a
circle of baby orchids and
pearls. She carried white and
red carnations on a white
Bible. Mr. Evans gave his
daughter in marriage.
Mrs. Tom Hastings, Grants
Pass, attended her sister. She
wore a red brocade ballerina
length dress and carried a
bouquet of red and white car
nations. Roger Paddock, Brookings,
served as best man.
Following the ceremony a
reception was held in Grants
Pass.
For traveling the bride
wore a blue wool dress. The
bride attended Brookings and
Rogue River High schools.
Mr. Vickers attended Brook
ings High school.

'Along the Boulevard'
Theme of Fashion Show
- This year the Medford Jun
ior Women's club is inviting
husbands to join their wives
in viewing "Fashions Along
the Boulevard." The club is
sponsoring an evening of
fashions including dessert and
cards at the Rogue Valley
Country club on Wednesday,
March 20 at 8 p.m.
Women's fashions will be
presented by Town and Coun
try Dress Shop, hats by
Mann's, sohes by Johnston
and Stewart, and furs by
France's Furs.
The change to an evening
show was decided upon to al
low working women an op
portunity to view new spring
fashions, and also to enable
those husbands who would en
joy the show to accompany
their wives.
Reservations for the fash
ion show may be made by

gins, 773-1143. Ticket prices
include dessert and cards.
Table prizes and door prizes
will be awarded.

Proceeds from the fashion
show will benefit three proj
ects currently being stressed
by the General Federation cf
Women's clubs. The Arthritis
and Rheumatism foundation
is a special interest of club
women throughout the coun
try, and has been adopted by
the clubs for special contri
butions. Women between the
ages of 35 and 50 are victims
of arthritis on a ratio of 3 to 1
compared to men, and a great
number of women who are
working on this cause have
felt the ravages of this dis
ease, it is stated.
The Mercy Ship Hope is an
extension of good will and
compassion from the entire
American population to other
countries in need of medical
facilities. This former Navy
hospital ship travels around
the world, stopping by re
quest at various countries
where the staff works to train
medical technicians and helps

Women's club slogan for this
administration is "strengthen
ing the arm of liberty," and
this is being done most ef
fectively by the volunteers
on the Mercy Ship Hope.
Dr. Jonas Salk is establish
ing an international founda
tion at La Jolla, Calif. The
purpose of this foundation is
to enable scientists from all
nations to combine their ef
forts in a common goal. This
goal is almost as universal in
scope as will be the persons
involved, as the foundation's
purpose Is to search for
causes of diseases and birth
defects.
The foundation has request
ed contributions to aid in
their building fund. The Gen
eral Federation of Women's
clubs has endorsed this as a
most worthy cause, and the
Medford Junior Women's club
has elected to participate in
this program.
Evening Fashion Show
Will Benefit School
The major portion of pro
ceeds from the evening style
show to be staged by the Wel
come Wagon club Thursday,
March 21 will go to the School
of Hope, officers have an
nounced. Themed to "In Your
Easter Bonnet" the event will
open at 8 p.m., in the Girls
Community club, 229 North
Bartlett street.
Tickets are available at
Mann's Department store and
the Carriage House shop, from
which the apparel is being
furnished. The price of the
show also includes refresh

Grandmothers To Model
At Auxiliary
A grandmother and grand
daughter will model together
at the style show and lunch
eon to be given by the aux
iliary to the Jackson County
Medical society on Monday,
April 1 at the Rogue Valley
Country club. Susan Stringer,
two-year-old daughter of Dr.
and Mrs. Brian Stringer, will
accompany her grandmother,
Mrs. Edwin R. Durno, wife
of a retired physician, as they
model Easter finery for guests
at the benefit.
Two other grandmothers
who will model the latest
fashions are Mrs. Robert De
Lorme and Mrs. Warren Bish
op. Eighteen young people,
whose ages range from two
through seventeen, will also
parade the aisles. All are the
children of physicians, and
among them will be two sets
of twins.
Five valley stores are sup
plying the clothing to be mod
eled, and a coordinator from
the Medical auxiliary will
work with each store. Mrs.
Eugene Meyerding is a coor
dinator for Jean Hart's, Mrs.
James Quinn for Mann's,
Mrs. Jack Ingram for Robin
son's, Mrs. Theodore Barss for
the Big Y, and Mrs. Warren
