Phoenix Cring
A potluck dinner will be
the opening event of the an-:
nual birthday celebration at '
Phoenix Grange Feb. 26. The
dinner will be served at 6:30
p.m. Members are asked to
bring their own table service.
The Home Economics club
will be in charge of the en
tertainment.
Guests at the last meeting
were Mr. and Mrs. Ted
Simms. Simms, a state deputy,
was escorted to the master's,
station. He congrat u 1 a t e d
members on their adherence
to the Grange ritual during
the meeting. He also encour
aged subordinate Granges to
present resolutions to the
state legislature.
Mcrvin H i x s o n reported
that operation costs for dairy
ing are still increasing. This
is iorcing some small dairies
to quit business completely
while others are trying to
meet the cost by expanding.
The amount ol grain that
farmers lose by weeds was
commented on by Charles
Hockersmith. He mentioned
a type of sweet corn named
"Sugar Cane" that hasvbeen
developed in this area.
Charles Johnson stated in
the horticulture report that
orchard pruning Is behind at
this time. He also said the
price of pears has declined.
Mclvin Lattie read a letter
from Representative Redden
and noted some of the bills
that are currently in the legis
lature.
During the literary pro
gram two represent a t i v e s
from the League of Women
Voters presented question
naires for members to com
plete. Serving at the next meeting
will be Mr. and Mrs. George
Hartley; Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn
Quackenbush; Mr. and Mrs.
Charles Hockersmith; David
Carr and Frank Clark.
