Taipei, Formosa- lUPB -Generalissimo
Chiang Kai-shek,
75, president of Nationalist
China, feels Indonesia is
doomed to become an all-out
Communist state and ."I
"cause more unresi and chaos
in the Pacific area."
In an exclusive two and
one-half hour interview with
United Pre.s International at
his beach house on the south
ern coast of Formosa, the
soldier-statesman said his
armed forces are ready to
'"return" to the Chinese main
land and he believes hU ex
peditionary force will be
launched "sometime this
year."
The president told UPI that
he strongly favors Malaysia,
the proposed confederation of
Malaya with Singapore and
three British slates on the
north coast of Borneo Island'
Sarawak, Brunei, and North
Borneoas a safeguard against
the spread of communism.
Better Act Fast
Chiang warned the United
States and other Western
countries they had better act
fast to save Asia from the
grasp of communism.
Referring to Indonesia, he
said the power and influence
of the Communists Is not
necessarily confined to the
high levels of governmert but
has reached the common mass
es of the people. He blames
this on food shortages and
declines in tin and rubber
exports.
The president made a point
of emphasizing that he has
no intention of picking an
arbitrary time and place for
what he invariably refers to
"return to the mainland
but will send his armed f r
ces only after there has been
an internal revolt in Red
China.
There is no solidarity of
forces in Communist China,"
he said. "Even no thore is
serious split and disorder
in the armed forces. We will
move when the time is right.
I will lead the striking forces
which will go to the assist
ance of our enslaved country
men on the mainland."
The generalissimo talked
easily and answered questions

nearly a year ago. Ma. Gen
S. K. Ku of the Chinese air
force, a former University of
Michigan student, served as
interpreter.
The interview started
promptly at noon and contin
ued for an hour, then through
a lunch which featured squab
and shark's fin soup among
I other Chinese specialties.
I After lunch the interview
resumed in the sunny
living room of the one-room
residence overlooking a sandy
beach.
