Bill Would Allow
Payments by Army
Street improvements in
Medford and a number of
Oregon cities would be affect
ed by legislation co-sponsored
by Sen. Wayne L. Morse (D
Ore.) and SenLee Metcalf of
Montana.
The bill is one enabling the
Army to contribute to the cost
of improvement of certain
property, even though it has
no real estate interest in the
property. The inability of the
Army to participate in the fi
nancing of pa,ving and curbing
on streets abutting Army re
serve centers led to the intro
duction of the measure.
It will permit the Army to
pay its share of street and
sidewalk improvements made
adjacent to U.S. Army reserve
installations to the same ex
tent as other property owners,
Morse noted.
The total federal cost for
the Oregon projects would be
$35,500, of which $11,000 is
in Medford, $3,000 in Corval
lis, $2,500 in Eugene, $10,000
in South Portland, $3,500 in
West Portland and $5,500 in
Salem.
