The Mount Shasta Ski bowl
operators are conducting a
Ladies' day for Medford wo
men each Wednesday at the
bowl when free ski lessons
and free use of the rope tow
are offered ior the day.
As an experiment, the
Rogue Snowmen will sponsor
a chartered bus to Mount
ShBsta, Wednesday. February
6. The bus fare will be nom
inal and all Interested persons
of the area, whether export or
novice, are invited to make

chairman and heard reports
of accomplishments of the
past year at the annual meet
ing last week. It was held
January 29 at the Red Cross
chapter house with the retir
ing chairman, James Ragland,
presiding.
Mrs. B. Brandt Bartels was
elected chairman by the new
board. The nine new members
of the 15-member board are

Doi, Ashland, Mrs. Thomas

will appear in concert here Monday, February 4. ior Jackson
County Civic Music association. The event will be held at
Medford High school auditorium beginning at 8 p.m. Mr.
Wariield, who has made tour concert tours abroad at the
request oi the U.S. State department, has been acclaimed both
as a singer and an actor in opera, musicals, on television
and radio. The concert Is open only to members oi the
association.

teacher in the art department.
Subject matter is both repre
sentational and non-objective

be on exhibit through Febru
ary. Tlic March show will be
from Colby. Wash., and con
sists of a collection of water
colors and graphics.

next show at Rogue gallery,
maintained by the association,
will be the private collection
of valuable art objects loaned
by Lloyd Halverson, valley
resident. Most of the show
will consist of paintings, some
dating back to the Elizabethan
period. Included will be a
Van Dyke, a Pissaro, a Modi
gliani, an alleged Rembrandt
and others by well-known ar
tists. After completing school,
Mr. Halverson for a number
of years worked with galler
ies and antique firms and dur
ing this time began to build
his collection.

A reception is planned for

Mr. Ragland reported on
activities of the past year
mentioning the various shows,
the craft show, art and for
eign movies and a children's
art class held last summer
and planned again this sum
mer. He explained that $1500
had been raised to hire a paid
director, that Ted Lindbcrg,
Eugene, had been hired last
July to fill the position. He
added that unfortunately, ad
ditional funds had not been
generated to continue the
director's salary and the re
lationship was terminated in
January. The association has
reverted to a complete volun
teer basis.
Mr. Lindberg is now serv
ing as chairman of the movie
committee and said that
movies have been booked
through June. Two French,
two Italian and one W. D.
Fields movie have been sched
uled. Executive board meetings
will be held every third Mon
day; they are open to the
membership.
Water Color Show Today
To Aid Art Association
Area residents will have
the opportunity this afternoon
to see, in one exhibit, water
colors of Jacksonville, painted
by Eugene Bennett from 1934
through 1950.
The water colors, all now in
private collections, have been
loaned for today's benefit for
the Rogue Valley Art associa
tion. The exhibit will be held
from 3 to 5 o'clock today at
the- studio of Eugene Bennett,
305 South Oregon street,
Jacksonville.
The event is open to the
public and an admission
charge will be made. Sherry
will be served. All proceeds
will go to the association's

Provides Theme
For Bridge Party
Ashland The new winter
recreation area on the slopes
of Mt. Ashland made its pre
miere in social circles recent
ly when it appeared in minia
ture as the theme of a bridge
luncheon at the Rogue Valley
Country club.
Hostesses for the "Winter
Wonderland" event were Mrs,
Arthur M. Peters, Mrs. Foss
G. Kramer and Mrs. Wayne
W. Heard, all of Ashland, who
entertained 64 Ashland wom
en. Centerpieces at each of the
16 tables were tiny replicas
of the proposed ski run com
plete with slaloming figures.
Place cards and tallies glit
tered with snowflakes and
even the dessert of snowballs
carried out the theme.
Concealed in amusing snow
man boxes were the bridge
prizes won by Mrs. Carl Har
ris, Mrs. Harold Merrill, Mrs.
Pierre Roberts and Mrs. Rich
ard Morrow. Low prize at
each table was a plastic rain
bonnet hidden in a hollow
snowball.
