the time and effort can cut
her family food bill as much
as 10 per cent by shopping
the supermarket specials ad'
vertised In newspapers, re.
ports a Stanford university
study.
The advertised specials of
an individual supermarket
cover about one-third of t
family's basic food budget,
the report said.
"The buyer who has room
to store some Items, and
enough menu flexibility to ac
commodate the 'specials,' can
make an Important part of
her food purchases from the
advertised specials, the re
port said.
"It pays, not only to shop
the specials, but also to keep
posted on which Items are be
ing most widely and frequent
ly featured."
The report appears in the
current issue of Food Re
search Institute studies, pub'
lished by Stanford. The au.
thors were Roger W. Gray,
professor and economist at
the Food Research institute,
and Rolce Anderson, professor
in the agricultural economics
department at Utah State uni
versity and visiting scholar at
the institute when the study
was made.

Science Center at
Seattle Now Open
Seattle-The Pacific Science
Center, in 19U2 the highlight
exhibit of the Seattle World's
Fair, is now open permanent
ly as the finest display of
science exhibits ever assem
bled. As the United States
Science Exhibit at the Fair,
the $10 million Center attract
ed more than 6,500,000 per
sons In six months. After the
Fair, Century 21 Exposition,
operation was turned over to
the non-profit Pacific Science
Center Foundation,
Edward E. Carlson, Foun
dation president, said "More
than 86 per cent of the ex
hiblls remain, and It is our
plan to add improvements
constantly."
Three new exhibits - a
Musser planetarium, an op
tical light masor and a NASA
satellite tracking display -were
added In December.
Three other main Fair at
tractions, the monorail, the
space needle and the Seattle
Civic Center eoinnlev in '
are continuing operations.
The Pacific Science Center
is presently open on week
ends only, but plans to go
Into full time operations this
spring.
SPUR ROADS PLANNED
