Brazil Furnishes
Universal Theme

writer Richard Llewllyn,
author of "How Green Is My
Valley," chose Brazil to Illus
trate a book he is now writing
because of the "elements of
primitive Christianity" here.
The book's title will be
"Sweet Morn of Judas' Day."
It's theme: "The sheer afflic
tion of being a human being
without the possibility of
faith, either in one's self,
one's work, one's social order,
in politics or in God."
"This," Llewllyn said,
"leads to a passive infuriation
which shows itself in aggres
sive conduct in the family and
outside, as well as in drunk
enness, drugs or womaniz
ing. ,
In the past 12 years Llewl
lyn (pronounced Loolyn) has
written 11 novels and four
plays.
The theme for "Sweet
Morn of Judas' Cay" is a uni
versal one, he said.
"Brazil is a universal coun
try," he said. "You have ev-
crythlng here, and everything
' is at the beginning. More than
in any other Latin American
. country.
Judas' Day to the primi
tive Christian was the day
after Judas Iscariot hanged
himself, when all misfortune,
all the black horror of exist
ence, the mistakes, the nega
tive idiocies, filled the air
and made day unbearable.
Every man went to his own
house and shut the door.
Llewllyn said he hopes to
finish the book by the end
of this year. It will be publish
ed by Doubleday.
