ture convened this week the
Oregon Coast association an

Aggressive students who

lice search caused the officers

night to disperse the angry
mobs. Three rioters were
wounded.
The U. S. Embassy reported
that UPI's news editor in the
Caracas bureau, Anthony Val
buena, had been arrested
"with a group of people" In
side the university while cov
ering the search.

French paintings from the Na
tional Art Museum Wednes
day, shooting and wounding a
child In the process, had been
positively identified as univer
sity students.

Clerk Sworn In
Grants Pass A Donley
(Don) Barnes, Republican,
was sworn in as Josephine
county clerk Wednesday in
ceremonies conducted by Cir
cuit Judge James W. Craw
ford of Portland, who is serv
ing here on a pro-tem basis
during the illness of Judge
Orval Millard.
Barnes succeeds Ben W.
Coutant, who resigned, lie
was appointed by the board
of county commissioners two
weeks ago.
Barnes had been deputy
county clerk since May 1,
1961. He had served the coun
ty for a total of 16 years, but
not continuously during that
number of years. He was
Josephine county sheriff from
1037 through 1943 and before
becoming sheriff was deputy
sheriff for Josephine county.
