Ashland - Oregon College
of Education's Wolves skinn
ed by the Raiders of Southern
Oregon Friday night in a hard
fought 61-55, Oregon Collegi
ate Conference basketball bat
tle on the SOC Court.
Southern Oregon started the
game by holding their own
with the class ball handling
Wolves for the first few min
utes, but before the first quar
ter came to a close OCE had
gained a small lead. Oregon
college's scrappers held their
thin margin through most of
the first period. Near the end
nf the initial half, Southern
Oregon missed a shot and also
lost the ball, giving the down
state men several opportuni
ties to score. After capitaliz
ing on the scoring chances,
OCE held a six point margin
over the Raiders for the re
mainder of the half. At the
horn it was Wolves 32 and
SOC, 26.
After a rest period the
visitors came on the floor
strong as ever, but Southern
Oregon had a tough time find
ing the basket. Using the Rai
ders cold stretch, the Wolves
banked in a number of quick
ies to gain a sizeable lead be
fore the locals could retaliate.
Fighting to keep SOC alive,
Dave Hughes cut loose with
'wo shorties and five straight
free throws. He also brought
down five rebounds during
the half in a backboard strug
gle with Toby Wolf of OCE.
Wolf hit four field goals and
two free throws for eight
points. In addition, he won
the rebounding match with
Hushes by battling down sev
en keepers.
The Raiders crept within
four points of OCE in the clos
ing minutes, but went Into a
full court press and commit'
ted a number of fouls which
set them back again. At the
final buzzer Southern Oregon
had matched the wolves in
score for the period but hadn't
produced the steam to recover
their first half deficit.

A tag team match which
has the makings of a real
thriller will open the 1963
wrestling season at Medford

Rocky Columbo, the stocky
Italian from New York who
is well remembered here, will
team up with newcomer Lor
enzo Parenti of Italy against
Wild Bill Savage and sinister
Haru Sasaki in the main
event, down for an hour or
two out of three falls.
Parenti, who will come Into
the ring at 225 pounds, re
cently headlined several cards
in St. Louis, where he was
a consistent winner, before
coming to the northwest. His
youth and flashy grappling
style make him an excellent
partner for Columbo, who
had several spectacular
matches here. last fall, one of
which sent him to a local
hospital for an overnight stay.
Fans who have been asking
