Galanos
Collection
Is Shown
By GAY PAULEY
UPI Women's Editor
New York (I'Pli D a r 1 n g
necklines for daytime and
skirt lengths kept short
marked the James Galanos
spring fashion collection.
The Beverly Hills, Calif.,
designer who traditionally
brings each new collection to
Gotham for its preview, also
decided that the sylph sil
houette was the shape for
spring.
This one follows the body
lines "effortlessly," as a
spokesman said during
Wednesday afternoon's show
at a New York hotel ball
room. "The fabric is mould
ed subtly and shaped to ac
cent rather than reveal." Ac
cent proved to be on various
parts of a woman's anatomy
- the neckline, the bust, the
waist, or hips.
But it was revelation for
necklines on a group of day
time jersey dresses called
"world travelers." All were
sleeveless, narrow of silhou
ette, gently shaped to the
figure. An inverted pleat at
the center back gave walking
room.
All had U-s h a p e d or
squared necklines cut so low
in front that breathing would
be hazardous.
Galanos kept skirt lengths
on all daytime suits, dresses
nd costumes where he has
held them for the last several
collections just covering the
kneecap.
A spokesman for the trend
setting designer said Galanos
feels this length is a youth
ful, flattering one and should
remain. But there have been
hints throughout the fashion
industry that hems may show
a slight drop in 1963.
Other pace-setting designers
will show spring collections
all this week. Italian design
ers will open their collections
January 19. The Paris voices
of fashion will be heard be
ginning January 28.

noon.
During the meeting, reports
will be made on the ceremo
nial held last month at Kla
math Falls. The event marked
the official visit of the order's
supreme queen, Mrs. Hazel
Marshall, Dos Moines, Iowa.
Committee chairmen are
asked to submit their reports
on holiday gift boxes to the

the meeting. Mrs. Chester

fashions, spring came into full bloom in the weight wool jersey. This two-piece ensemble
