Gasoline Smelled - Fire
men caiied to investigate the
report of a gasoline odor about
10:40 a.m. yesterday at Dumas
Domestic laundry, 32 North
Riverside ave., Medford, said
that they stood by until a
meter reading dropped to
zero. They said the source of
the odor apparently was gaso
line dumped into the sewer at
some undetermined point.
Firemen Sutnmoned-Smoke
from cooking, reported by a
neighbor, was the apparent
reason for a house fire alarm
yesterday afternoon, firemen
stated. They were called to
1314 South Peach st. and
found no fire.
Permits Issued - The Med
ford building department is
sued a permit Thursday to
Leeds Shoe store, Medford
Shopping Center, to erect a
sign at an estimated cost of
$7,500. A permit also was is
sued to Sierra Construction
company to erect a residence
at 2508 Jackson dr. at an ap
proximate cost of $9,500 and
to remodel a commercial
building at 1101 North River
side ave. at an estimated cost
of $1,500.

The family have been resi
dents of tins community for
the past 51 years. Mr. Word
en was a Veteran of World
War i. having served as a
sargeat with the base hospital,
81st medical corp in the U S.
Army in France.
He had been superintendent
of Medford Domestic Laundry
for many years, and during
World War H was employed
as steam maintenance man at
Camp White. Mr. Worden re
tired in 1952.
He was a 40-year member
of Medford Lodge 103 AF&
AM, and a member of World
War I Barracks, Medford,
Survivors, besides his wife,
include two sons, James L.
Worden, Klamath Falls, and
Weston A. Worden. Medford;
one brother, Guy D. Worden,
Long Beach, Calif.; one sister,
Mrs. Flossie Cheney, Yermo,
Calif., and five grandchildren.
Two brothers, Glenn and Clif
ford J. Worden, preceded hira
in death.
