In Highway Bids
Salem IUPP Apparent low
bids on 13 highway projects,
totaling S8.1 million, were
opened Tuesday by the State
Highway commission.
The department said the
bids appeared about 4.4 per
cent below engineer's esti
mates. Peter Kiewit Sons, Vancou
ver, Wash., was apparent low
bidder on the two largest
projects.
The firm bid S2.393.431 for
the Youngs Bay Bridge sec
tion in Clatsop county, and
$3,848,551 for the Blalock-Ar-lington
section of relocated
Columbia River highway in
Gilliam county.
Identical Medford Bids
Two firms submitted identi
cal bids of $10,975 for instal
lation of lights on the Barnett
rd. interchange in Medford.
The bids were submitted by
Madson & Stokes Electrical
Contractors, Roseburg, and
Steek Electric Co., Medford.
Award of bids will be made
by the highway commission
at a meeting to be held in
Medford Dec. 20.
