Juvenile Officials Investigate Group of Girls a t Medford High
Court Signs Orders
Renaming Officers
The Jackson county court
signed orders Friday reap
pointing county officials and
one committee member.
Arnold Bohnerl, Central
Point area farmer, was reap
pointed to three years on the
county budget committee.
Robert J. Carstensen was re
appointed county engineer for
four years. William S. Man
ning was reappointed con
stable for two years. Elmer
W. Donahoo was reappointed

The court also approved an
allowance for travel and

visit various western Oregon
constable offices next week
to study their operations.
Manning said he expects
no small claims service will
be needed next week. Various
business firms of the area and
the district court have stated
no small claims summons
need be served until after
Christmas.
Jackson county juvenile
authorities are making fur
ther investigations of a group
of girls at Medford High
school which could have
developed into a "gang" be
fore processing the individual
cases, according to Juvenile
I Director Lawrence Twcedv.
Some the girls have been
ordered picked up and lodged.
The juvenile department
has not yet held individual
interviews with the girls and
their parents, he said. He
agreed with an earlier state
ment by Medford police that
the reports on the group were
greatly exaggerated, particu
larly the reputation of the
leader. The seven necklaces
shoplifted from local , stores
used to distinguish members
were returned, Tweedy added.
All of the boys who had
formed the beginnings of a
juvenile gang earlier and
were involved in local burg
laries have been returned to
their parents on probation,
Tweedy said. He noted all of
the boys have l.Q.'s of 140 or
better. An I.Q. of 100 is con
sidered average.
Home on Provation
Friday one 17-year-old boy
was sent home on probation.
A 17-year-old girl was held
over in detention for medical
reasons. A case involving a
17-year-old boy was continued
pending finding a home for
him. A 14-year-old boy was
released on probation to rela
tives. A 15-year-old girl was
sent home on probation. A
case of a boy on parole from
MacLaren School for Boys
was dismissed since he had
met the parole conditions.
Thursday night two teen
age girls were picked up by
state police on a back road in
Sams Valley on charges of
being runaways and released
to their parents.
Two 16-ycar-old boys who
ran away from Woodland,
Calif., and Sparks, Nev., were
picked up Friday and lodged
in the county jail because of
lack of room in the detention
home.
A 17-year-old boy is being
ncid in the county jail on a
felony charge, and a 16-year-old
boy is being held on a
felony charge in the deten
tion home.
