Be Collapse Cause

bers supporting the scaffold
ing may have caused a con
struction tragedy which took
five lives here Wednesday.
The men were killed and
nine others injured, two seri
ously, when the freshly-poured
concrete dome collapsed
on a new city water reservoir
under construction.
C. R. Lafferty, district su
perintendent of the Oregon
State Industrial Accident com
mission, said the loose Joint
is "the most likely cause." He
said the blame has not been
fixed, however.
Fourteen men pouring the
last of the concrete were
plummeted more than 60 feet
and buried in debris at the
bottom of the reservoir.
