Final lesson of the Rogue
Snowmen dry land ski classes
was held last Wednesday
night, Dec. 12. at the Jack
son County Fairgrounds.
This concluded the series of
three lessons which were in
structed by volunteers from
the Rogue Snowmen. About
30 students participated in
classes of beginning through
advanced techniques, practic
ing such skills as falling
down p r o p er 1 y , downhill
snowplow position, kick turn,
and stem and parallel Chris
ties. President Wayne Martell
indicated that this has been
the third successful season for
skiers and beginning non-skiers.
Martell said that the next
meeting of the Rogue Snow
men will be Jan. 9 at the Red
Cross building.

The Comets of Central
Point took the lead for good
at S to 4. They had quarter
spreads of 17 to 12, 25 to 19
and 40 to 28. Three quick
buckets at the start of the
closing canto, making the
score 46 to 28, all but settled
the issue.
Howard Tomlinson sparked
the Comets with 18 rebounds
and 11 points. Lou Alvarez
had 13 points and was the
mainstay of the third quarter
with five field goals and a
free shot. Pat Pepper had 11
markers for the Central
Pointers and Paul Bransom
and Darryl Summcrficld each
retrieved the ball from the
boards nine times.
Charles Bolds had 14 points
for Cottage Grove and Gary
Vogler 11. Lou Bonzon led the
Lion rebounding with 10.
Slow First Half
The Growers slowed the
Comets in the first half and
the Crater club, missing a lot
of good opportunities, shot a
cool .320 from the field.
Crater canned only one layin
shot in the initial half. In the
second half, the Comets began
to run. The Lions went along
with them and after a few
quick goals, Crater was on its
way.
Better hitting in the second
half gave the Comets a .338
field bucket average of .338
for the contest on 22 goals
in 65 attempts. The Growers
put in 13 of 54 tries for .241.

St. Mary's entered the final
stanza with a 34 to 33 margin
and upped it to 36 to 33 in
the first minute of the panel.
But, by the time the period
was three minutes old, Pa
cific's Pirates were on top
39 to 37.
The Pacific crew had 43
to 41 margin with 20 seconds
left and Mike Stinson's free
toss added the final point.

St. Mary's led in field goals
18 to 16 and Pacific won out
on the strength of 11 free
shots to six by the Crusaders.
The Pirates gained one bucket
on a goal-tending charge
against the Medford team.
The Crusaders had an edge
on the boards but were hurt

newly realigned Pacific Coast
League formally accepted
three new members Saturday
and then approved a two-division
interlocking schedule for
the 1963 season.
The actions were taken
during the first day of a two-
day meeting at the Hotel
Utah of PCL team presidents
and general managers and
other officials.
Dallas-Ft. Worth, Oklahoma
City and Denver, all former
members of the disbanded
American Association, were
approved for membership in
the PCL. At the same time,
league officials adopted a res
olution deactivating the Van
couver franchise for the next
season.
Under the two-division
schedule. San Diego, Salt
Lake City, Denver, Oklahoma
City and Dallas-Ft. Worm
will be in the southern divi
sion and the northern divi
sion will consist of Honolulu.

Spokane.

The Raiders started strong

each with six.
Southern Oregon took an
early lead. Kingsley came to
life in the closing minutes of
the half to narrow SOC's lead
from 10 points to six. Nine
of the Raiders 10 players
registered points in the first
half.
The second half was the
Raiders' all the way, with
eight of their 10 men scoring
a total of 44 points. Burnett,
the Jets' center, was high
point man for the half with
12 points.
