powered toys and hobby kits
during the holidays. And, .it I
one lime or anolher, many of
these toys will be stalled or
lack of that prosaic household
item - the flashlight battery.
Even the most elaborate
battery-powered toy is about
as exciting as a rag doll when
the batteries go dead and
dad's supply of fresh ones is
exhausted. Burgess Battery
company offers these simple
tips to help avoid such domes
tic tragedies:
-When Installing batteries
In toys or hobby kits, make
certain the cells are Inserted
with terminals in correct po
sition and that metal contact

points on the toy are clean
and not bent out of line.
Periodic Rests
-Encourage youngsters to
give powered toys nr,'i'1'lin
rests; this gives the batteries a
chance to recuperate, seii
recliarge and gain back some
of their power.
-When battery powered
toys are In the house, it's best
to keep an ample supply of
fresh bHttcrics on hand. Flash
light batteries have good stor
age life - up to 18 months.
-When a baltcry-powered
toy or hobby kit is put away,
remove Hie balleries and
plare them on Ihe shelf beside
II, otherwise the switch on
Ihe toy may leak current and
accidentally drain the bat
teries. -Under no c i r cumstances
should batteries be removed
from an emergency lantern
or flashlight and used in a
toy.
-For long-term storage of
flashlight batteries, wrap sev
eral in heavy paper and place
in the freezer of the family
refrigerator. Only frozen
flashlight batteries will stav
fresh indefinitely. To thaw,
simply remove from the
freezer and let the package '
warm up to room temperature, i
