tion, has termed Gov. Mark
Hatfield's budget' proposals
inadequate.
Walsh said the proposed
budget appears too low to
meet the needs of higher edu
cation during the next bien
nlum. He said, however, he
will have lo give the proposed
budget more study before
commenting on specific pro
posals. Hatfield proposed a record
$405 million general fund
budget for HlfiH US. He said
most of the SiiO million in
crease would go lo education.
Hatfield also proposed a $45
million bond issue for higher
education buildings.
Walsh said if the bond issue
were approved, and if most of
the money were spent In the
next two years, higher educa
tion building needs would be
largely met.
