bank check designed for per
sons wno cannot be bothered
with filling of bank stubs.
It was made by local branch
managers of First National
Bank of Oregon.
The new "Record-Rite"
checks and deposit slips pro
duce duplicate copies without
the use of carbon paper, offi
cials noted. By using a special
paper containing an invisible
carbon back, a duplicate copy
of each check and deposit is
automatically produced as a
reminder.
Some persons frequently
forget to fill out the regular
check stubs and then find
they have trouble recalling
what they have spent. The
"Record-Rite" check is espe
cially appealing to these
check users.
Greater Convenience
Greater convenience and
ease of reconciliation in coin
paring canceled checks with
the duplicates is an important
advantage. It is especially
helpful to husbands and wives
in keeping the balances of
their joint checking accounts
straight, officials noted.
First National will offer
three types of the new check.
One type is for individuals.
Two are for small business
and professional people - a
payroll and an all-purpose
check.
The new checks, which
come in four colors, will have
the names of the depositors
printed on them. The "Record
Rite" check may be carried
singly in a slim wallet pro
vided with the checks. Separ
ate wallets for men and wo
men were designed by Henry
Dreyfuss, industrial designer.
At present, some persons
with joint checking accounts
tear out a few checks from
their checkbooks to carry in
their wallets. Frequently they
forget to keep a record of the
checks they write and have
difficulty in keeping their
balances straight, local man
agers noted.

way of preserving shoes and
enhancing their beauty. The
simple action of having your
shoes shincd is a pause, a
halt, in the fever of living. It
is a moment of mounting the
throne, of kingship.
The bootblack shines and
polishes. He cracks his cloth.
He shines and polishes again.
Finally, he pulls back to sur
vey his job, to see his re
flection in the high gloss, to
await your nod of approval.
Shoe shining is an art. The
proud bootblacks of the Paseo
de la Reforma in Mexico prac
tice their profession in a way
that holds customers year aft
er year. The Greek boys -some
of them are sixty-ply
their trade in Constitution
Square in Athens, offering
their patrons the finest shine
in the world along with a
special line of gossip.
The corner bootblack, the
barbershop concessionaire, the
operator who holds forth in
office buildings in the United
States, dispense their own
kind of magic to footwear and.
to wearers of footwear. Both
profit.
For the customer who, out
of necessity or choice, polishes
his own shoes, there are a
number of choices. One is
the old-fashioned kit with its
wax polish, its brushes and its
rags. Another is the aerosol
type, in which polish is spray
ed on and which requires only
a perfunctory brush. Still an
other is the motorized polish
er. A shoe with a high polish is
not only a mark of good dress,
says the National Shoe insti
tute. It is also a morale builder.
