Stars of tomorrow are on
both sides because a good

Crusaders Battle Eagle Point Team
. . . .. .. .. ..ill 4n1,;nM IViar. thrnat in
St. Mary's High's Crusaders
worked on their kicking game
and spent some time on de
fense yesterday as they read
ied for their venture in the
Rogue league football cam
paign. The Crusaders of Medford
put an undefeated record on
the line at Eagle Point. Kick
off time will be at 8 p.m. on
Friday. St. Mary's has won
six games this season, five
within the league. Eagle
Point has won three of five
engagements this fall and is
2-1-1 within the circuit.
On the strength of compara
tive scores, not always a re
liable measure, St. Mary's is
the favorite. Crusader injuries
could be a leveling factor,
although the Eagles have their
ailing players, too.
Red Raiders
Oppose OTI
Saturday
Ashland - With plenty of
fire left over from the re
sounding 39-7 victory over
Eastern Oregon, Southern Or
egon college's football team
will meet Oregon Tech in
Klamath Falls on Saturday,
Oct. 27, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The Red Raiders will shoot
for their fourth win against
one loss this season and their
second straight Oregon col
legiate conference win. Last
year Southern Oregon downed
the Owls, 6-0.
Southern Oregon amassed a
tremendous 509 yards, while
holding the visiting Mounties
to a mere 197 yards in total
offense. Doug Olsen complet
ed 15 of 22 passes for 316
yards and three touchdowns
for the Raiders.
Last Saturday the Owls
dropped a 23-0 encounter at
the hands of the Portland
State Vikings. PSC now leads
the OCC with' a 3-0 mark.
Big Hill
Raider chief AI Akins stat
ed that "this will be the big
hill to get over." Akins put
double emphasis on his words,
since the game will be played
over the hill. He further stat
ed that "the Owls were al
ways tough on their own turf."
Akins will have about the
same lineup starting the Owl
encounter that started in the
Mountaineer game. On the of
fense will be Howard Hart
man, right end; Gary Reed,
right itackle; Bud Brittsan,
right guard; George Moses,
center; Larry Ryerson, left
guard; Glen Moses, left tackle;
and Dave Hughes, left end. In
the backfield for the Raiders
will be Kerm Bennett, left
half; Doyle Bransom, right
half; Al Barnes, fullback; and
Doug Olsen, quarterback.
The defense will have
Jess Munyon, left end; Rick
Speight, left tackle; Glenn
Vandergaw and Ken Bastian,
interior line; Ron Baker, right
tackle; Dick Reiling, right
end; Skip Bennett and John
Buck, linebackers; Denny El

The Crusaders have end
Ron Roberts, tackles Dave

and fullback Randy Corliss
among their ailing gridders.
Roberts has a muscle spasm
trouble. It's responding to
treatment, but, as of yester
day, he was still taking ther
apy and had had no prac
tice. It's hoped he will be in
uniform. His thigh tightened
prior to the Henley game and
he saw duty against the Hor
nets only in the second half.
Shouldtr Out
Young dislocated a shoul
der in the Henley fray but
should be able to play on
Friday. Cook had his hand
stepped on but likely will see
offensive service. Hutchinson
has been out for some time
as the result of severed chest
muscles suffered in a hunt
ing mishap. Smith has had a
throat infection and was in
school yesterday for the first
time this week. Corliss was
ill yesterday.
St. Mary's Coach Bill Mc
Kibbin reported that Dennis
Rose may start at offensive
end in place of Roberts. Mike
O'Hara could be at tackle
or guard in place of Young
or Smith.
Defense plays call for Lar
ry Padtra to replace Stinson,
but Stinson could remain in
the lineup if Corliss is still
under the weather. Corliss,
otherwise, would go in for
Cook.
