set for Friday night but was
shifted to Saturday when

A spectacular scoring duel
shapes up next Sunday when
Gene Mingo, the Denver Bron
cos' point - making machine,
pits his versatility against the
passing of the Houston Oilers
George Blanda in a clash of
the American Football
league's division leaders.
Blanda, whose play had
been spotty in earlier games
this season, threw six touch
down passes Sunday as the
Oilers set an AFL scoring
record by beating the New
York Titans, 56-17.
Mingo, the 200-pound half
back who never went to col
lege, scored 17 points in lead
ing the Denver Broncos to a
23-6 victory over the Oakland
Raiders. Mingo now has kick-,
ed 15 field goals and scored
83 points in six games.
Could Be Preview
These two teams meet next
Sunday in Denver in a game
that conceivably could be a
preview of the AFL's cham
pionship game.
By winning, Houston re
mained on top of the Eastern
division with a 4-J record,
while Denver gained undis
puted possession of first place
in the Western division with
a 5-1 record.
The Dallas Texans, who de
feated the Boston Patriots, 27
7, Friday night, are close at
the Broncos' heels with a 4-1
record. In the AFL's other
week end game, the Buffalo
Bills scored their first win of
the season by upsetting the
San Diego Chargers, 35-10,
Saturday night.
Houston's 56-point total set
an AFL scoring record, break
ing the 55-point mark which
the Oilers had achieved twice
before. And Blanda's six scor
ing passes were one short of
the league record he set
against the same Titans last
season.

The game is set for Satur
day night, Oct. 27, at the Med
ford high stadium.
Sam Richardson, chairman
of the game committee for the
sponsoring Medford Kiwanis
club, said that the scheduling
of the game here was the re
sult of two years negotiations.
It is hoped that the game will
become an annual one here.
Both the University of Ore
gon and Oregon State uni
versity have expressed a keen
desire to schedule a game an
nually at Medford because of
southern Oregon's strong in
terest in football and because
of the fact this area has been
a provider of grid material
for both schools.
To Clinic
Proceeds of the game will
go to the children's dental
clinic and to the Medford
high school athletic depart
ment. The 50 per cent net
proceed portion going to the
high school will be used for
dressing room construction
under the new grandstand.
The ticket locations are
Hubbard Brothers hardware,
Baker's men's store, Mann's
Department store, First Na
tional bank, Drew's Manstore
and the Big Y market, all in
Medford, and the Central
Point pharmacy. Members of
the Kiwanis club also have
tickets.
All seats for the game will
be sold on a general admis
sion basis with the exception
that high school season ticket
holders who have seats In the
new grandstand on a five year
basis may purchase tickets for
their regular seats. They may
buy tickets from the foregoing
ticket locations and exchange
them at Lamport's Sporting
Goods store or they may ob
tain the tickets directly at
Lamports. They have through
Wednesday, Oct. 24, to re
serve their five-year seats.
