Washington State is a noint

Stanford its second straight

history in Hugh Campbell plus
a fine needle-threader in qucr-

Coach Jack Curtice of Stan

his loam off the floor after its
hapless showing against Oie-
gon State.
Oregon, which had trouble
getting started against San
Jose State, seems in rather
deep against Rice. The Owls
lost to Penn State, 18-7, last
week after lying Louisiana
State, 6-6. Coach Len Casa
nova of the Ducks will be
counting on the fine running
and passing of Mel Renfro,
who was the key man in the
14-0 win over San Jose State.
As for the Spartans, they
have dropped all four of their
games so far this year but
could pull out of it against
Idaho. The Vandals bowed to
Montana last week for the
Grizzlies' first win in three
years.
Phoenix
Hosts To
Phoenix, - Two football
teams which spent the week
indoors will clash here to
night in a Rogue league fool
ball fray.
They arc the defending
champion Phoenix Pirates
and the Illinois Valley Cou
gars. Kickoff will be at 8
p.m.
Both clubs confined their
drills this week to the school
gymnasium.
In facing the Cougar, the
Pirates take on a club which
has suddenly arisen as a team
to be taken seriously in the
Rogue loop race. Phoenix
Coach Jack Woodward terms
them "a coming ball club."
The IV team, which has a
great passer in Darryl Gcllcrt
suddenly got some blocking
for the running of Ron Thorn
hill last week and slaughter
ed Lakevicw 40 to 12.
Lakcview has won 6 to 0
over Eagle Point which held
Phoenix to a scoreless tie.

Tonight's game will find
both aggregations fighting to
stay in league contention.
Phoenix has hod a siege of
sickness but Woodward ex
pects to have regulars start
ing at all position?, except
center where Paul Diederich
may fill Tim O'Mara's spot.
Concerning rain in the Cave
Junction area, Coach Bill
Stewart of IV said, "We've
really had it.'' He said that
weather likely would curtail
the Cougar throwing game.
Thornhill is expected to
start, although he's had a
cold. Stewart said that Mike

New engines, suspensions, frames
and narrower front ends show their
stuff on Mexico's tough Baja Run!
With months of proving-ground tests under
their belts, why did new Chevrolet trucks tak8
on the rugged Baja (bah'hnh) Peninsula?
This is the toughest line of trucks Chevrolet
has ever built. Sending them over the most
punishing terrain in North America fa road
totally unlike the fine highways on the Mexican
mainland) was double proof of this fact.
Frames, engines, suspension systems were sub
jected to stresses far greater than trucks
normally encounter. You can be sure that
trucks that can handle this kind of beating can
handle any kind of work.
