By BENNETT CERF-
A LADY WHO prided herself on her housekeeping was
driving behind a truck loaded with newspapers and
aaw a bundle of the.papers fall from the speeding vehicle.
''Uttering up the land-
cape!" she muttered an
grily, stopped short, and
put the bundle into the
back seat of her own car.
' Continuing on her way,
she noticed several other
bundles of paper on the
roadside and retrieved
these, too.
Then she caught up
with the truck parked
outside a diner. She col
lared the driver and said,
"I have exactly eight
bundles of your old pa
pers in my car." "In your car!" echoed the driver. "I work
for the Journal, lady. I was delivering them"'
A famous playwright's wife popped her head into his study
to ask, "Jerome, have you stili got a good memory lor laces ?"
"Superb," he replied. "What luck," said the wife. "I Juat broke
your shaving mirror."
There's a kid in upstate New York who is convinced that the
correct words for a certain Scottish folksong are: "Utica the
High Road, Ithaca the Low Road, and Albam r-i. yi Aforo
You." .
From Walter Cambray: '
A fabulous husband, remarkable man.
Come show me his equal if you possibly can.
When his wife had a smash-up, and phoned from afar,
He asked, "Are you hurt, dear?" THEN', "How is
the car?"

Withholding by
NFO Possibly
Could Boomerang
Washington UPP The Ag
riculture Department has in
dicated the livestock with
holding campaign of the Na
tional Farmers Organization
to boost farm prices could
boomerang and result in low
er cash returns.
In a review of the livestock
and meat situation, the de
partment said the holding ac
tion could result in prices
temporarily lower than if a
normal seasonal pattern of
sales had been followed.
First Comment
This was the department's
first comment on the NFO's
holding action begun early in
September at Midwest mar
kets. It was prepared shortly
before the farm group called
a recess in its efforts to in
crease prices.
The department said the
holding action helped to hold
down marketing of hogs dur
ing September. This is the
time of year when hog re
ceipts are seasonally low.
"The holding action could
have some influence on the
market later this year," the !
department said. "If market
supplies are bunched in Oc
tober or November due to
marketing of hogs that were
withheld in September, the
result would be a price tem
porarily lower than if a
normal seasonal pattern of
marketing had been followed.
Hog Prices Increase
"The magnitude of this ef
fect would depend on the ex
tent and duration of the hold
ing action and the method of
terminating it."
The department noted that
prices of hogs have risen
steadily since May. In Ser
tember, prices at eight Mid
west markets reached the
highest level since fall of
1958. Since June, prices have
been near or above a year
earlier and likely will con
tinue for the rest of the year.
For the entire year, the de
partment said, the average
price to producers will be
close to the $18.60 per 100
pounds received by farmers
in 1961.
The generally higher level
of hog prices during the last
two years, and this summer
in particular, are primarily
the result of reduced sup
plies, the department said.

Rockefeller Aims Over Morgenthau For Big Victory
Albany, N.Y. - IUTO - Gov.
Nelson A. Rockefeller, a po-j

Although Rockefeller has
noted a one-vote plurality is
sufficient to win a second
term in the state executive
mansion, many of his support
