JFK Signs Bill
To Permit Appeals
Washington -IUPH- President
Kennedy has signed a bill
which will enable appeals
from administrative decisions
by the Bureau of Land Man
agement, the U. S. Forest
Service and Bureau of Mines
to be heard in local federal
courts.
Under the old law, the only
way to appeal decisions was
by suing the Secretary of Ag
riculture or Secretary of the
Interior in Washington.
Northwest lumbermen and
livestock raisers long have
been critical of the difficulty
of appealing federal adminis
trative decisions.
The original bill to ease the
conditions was introduced by
Sen. Frank Church (D-ldaho)
and broadened later to include
all three agencies.
