Marting issued a point-by-point
denial of accusations

in a statement to Sen. Stuart
Symington's stockpile investi

MURDER SUSPECTED IN OFFICER'S DEATH
Taipei, Formosa-iUPIt-Taipei police authorities said today
an American Army officer whose body was found Wednes
day in the charred remains of his Taipei home, may have
been murdered.
The body of Lt. Col. Tom Glover, 51, a member of the
U. S. Military Assistance and Advisory group here, was
found in his house after a pre-dawn fire reduced the five
room, single-story home to ruins. Glover was a bachelor.
His last address was Washington, D.C.
"These are the largest-profits
I've ever seen in my life
and I have been in the execu
tive branch for quite a
while," Symington declared.
The Missouri Democrat once
headed the Reconstruction Fi
nance Corporation and was
Air Force secretary under
former President Harry S.
Truman.
In contrast to the nickel di
vision's profits, according to
Symington, Hanna's commer
cial iron ore operation yield
ed profits of 10 and 12 per
cent against costs in the same
years, 1954-61.
Symington maiie the state
ment during testimony by
L. W. Spang, secretary of
Hanna, who agreed to detail
expenses paid by the com
pany for a west coast expan
sion trip by two government
stockpile officials.
Spang has said that it never
crossed his mind that paying
the officials' expenses might
influence their judgment.
Denies Destroying Records
Marting also denied that
Hanna destroyed any perti
nent records after President
Kennedy invited an investiga
tion of the government's $3.4
billion stockpile surpluses
last Jan. 31.
Some records were de
stroyed, he testified, but this
was done as part of a records
management program begun
Nov. 7, 1961.
