Rural Program
Of Action Sought
Portland -UP!- Some 1,500
men and women from rural
areas Tuesday sought a pro
gram of action to strengthen
their part of America.
The summarizing came at
the conclusion ot a two-day,
seven-state conference on land
and people, one of five in
the nation sponsored by the
U.S. Department of Agricul
ture. Delegates from Oregon,
Washington, Idaho, California,
Arizona, Utah and Nevada ex
pressed general agreement on
two points.
They said rural areas are
In a period of crisis brought
on by science and technology,
as evidenced in changed farm
practices.

livelihoods for rural areas, as
