OREGON Regional Roundup by Clevt Twitched Mail Tribune) Regional Editor ' One day last week, the Mail Tribune's fold of regional correspondents swelled to 30 the most the paper has ever had writing at one time. The newest member of our "staff" is Mrs. Orlo Davis of Montague, Calif. She is now covering the Montague area for us. She may be reached by telephoning CLobe 9-3257 and residents of the Montague area are invited to contact her regarding news items. During the last few weeks we also have added Roberta Sletten as correspondent for the Evans Valley Wimer area. Her telephone number is JU 2-3373. A box listing all of the regional correspondents and their telephone numbers usually appears on this page every Friday and occasionally on Monday or Wednes day as well. With the adding of Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Sletten to our group of correspondents, we now have a correspond ent in virtually every community in the area bounded by Prospect, Tiller, Grants Pass, O'Brien, Happy Camp, Montague and Butte Falls. These men and women are correspondents for the purpose of seeing to it that all of our circulation area communities are represented in the news columns. In many instances they are dependent upon you, our readers, to report the news. If you are not already acquainted with the correspondent in your area, we encourage you to give him or her a call. (We use the word "him" in order not to give R. E. Nealon of Table Rock or A. L. Day of Trail any feeling of being left out. We have Just two "hims" 28 "hers.") Active Writers Stmlnar The following item is not exactly from the regional area. However, it should be of Interest to those in the regional area communities who are actively engaged in writing activities. An "active writers' seminar" is being organized in the Medford area. First organizational meeting has been set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3 in Room 247 at the Medford Senior High school. The purpose of the seminar is NOT to leach the fun damentals of writing but rather to provide an oppor tunity for open discussions, critiques and general opinions of participants actively engaged in the writing profes sion, reports Gig Farfan of Medford, one of the seminar's organizers. All phases of writing will be represented. Those wishing further information may contact Mrs. Farfan at 772-7407. Community Aiding Homeless Family Gold Hill - A community project to help Mr. and Mrs. Weston Wyatt and family has been started by their friends in the Gold Hill area. The Wyatt's home, located south of Gold Hill on the old highway, burned to the ground early Sunday morning. The family possessions and household items were destroy ed in the fire. The couple has five children ranging in ages one to 10 years, Mark, Susan, Steven, Danny and Timothy. Danny is a third grade student at Patrick school and Timothy is a fifth grader at Hanby school. Duncan Addresses Democratic Picnic Illinois Valley The Illinois Valley Democratic club held its annual picnic at the World War I grounds in Cave Junc tion Sept. 16. Robert Duncan, Democratic candidate for the Fourth Congressional district, was the main speaker, ad dressing over 100 people. Duncan, with his family, flew in from Medford. Club President Fred Kaufman in troduced Duncan, who said contracts in the Fourth Dist rict include two projects in southern Josephine county. Edward Hare, Cave Junc tion, candidate for a two-year term on the Josephine County Board of Commissioners spoke briefly on his desire to work for the interest of the people to create new jobs, markets and industries. Harris Speaks Jim Harris, candidate for the four-year term on the county board talked on the possible development of the valley for farm, recreation and industries. Dr. Carrol Dewey, Grants Pass, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jones and family (Josephine county assessor), and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hawkins of Grants Pass were guests at the Sun day picnic. PRACTICE SET Gold Hill Thursday, 8 p.m. Amethyst Rebekahs will meet with Rebekahs of Mt. Pitt lodge at Central Point for final rehearsal to prepare for visit of Mrs. Selma Watkins, president of Rebekah Assem bly of Oregon. She will pay an official visit to the two lodges at a joint session in Central Point on October 3. Gold Hill Rebekahs who need transportation to attend the practice at Central Point Thursday are asked to meet at the I.O.O.F. hall here prior to 7:30 p.m. Cars going will leave Gold Hill promptly at 7:30 p.m. NORTHERN CALIF. He stated all meetings called by himself have been cancelled. Kenney said It is impos sible to continue without the cooperation of the boys' par ents. Needed are adult leaders and more people who are in terested in their sons' welfare, he stated, as well as the wel fare of the community as a whole. Without this the pack cannot survive, Kenney said. The former cubmaster said that although he can see the good that a pack does in the community, apparently he was unable to sell the parents. He added that he was unable to get parents to contribute their time for this purpose. He praised the den mothers who had made an effort to hold the pack together, and boys in Scout Troop 43 who had helped since the pack was reactivated last February. Pack 43 had previously be come inactive due to the lack of adult interest and was sparked again by Mr. and Mrs. Kenney. Kenney said that although he has resigned, if someone else trie to hold the pack to gether he will donate his time to help with cub activity. He expressed his apology to boys in the 8 to 11 year age group in this community who will be affected by his resignation. Regional Hews Dinner Set Thursday To Honor Fr. Power Before Departure Prospect - A no host dinner is being held Thursday eve ning at the Prospect Com munity hall by members of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd to bid farewell to Father and Mrs. John S. Power. Fr. Power is leaving to go to St. Peter's church in Al bany, Ore. He has been vicar of the Prospect church for three-and-a-half years. His farewell sermon will be' de livered next Sunday, and it will be followed by a coffee hour and reception. Grange Slates Candidates Night Applegate Valley - Satur day is the date set for candi dates' night at Upper Apple gate Grange, according to Ed. Ramsey, legislative chairman in charge of the event.
